Central Mutual Insurance Company is Hiring a Director Of Casualty Claims Near Van, OH

Location- Hybrid Work ModelCentral’s Director of Casualty Claims heads all casualty lines (liability and workers’ compensation claims). This individual plays a critical role in achieving our mission in Claims to deliver exceptional hospitality to our policyholders, achieve optimal claim outcomes and operate with a high degree of efficiency. This individual is fully accountable for developing and executing on multiple line of business strategies as well as leading, managing and developing Central’s liability and workers’ compensation teams. They are responsible for defining technical excellence for casualty lines, controlling reserves and payment accuracy of complex claims up to a certain threshold, retroactive file review and feedback loops with underwriting, loss control, actuarial and other key stakeholders. In addition to leading high performing teams focused on managing Central’s most complex and/or high severity claims, this individual is expected to foster a culture of technical excellence, provide input into Central’s liability, workers’ compensation and litigation management training efforts and own various Claims processes such as a large loss watch list, proactive round tables and large loss/reinsurance reporting. What you will do:Primary responsibilities include: 1) Line of business strategy development and leadership for liability and workers compensation claims, 2) Complex/large loss claims oversight and management, 3) Feedback loops with underwriting, loss control, actuarial and other key stakeholdersOngoing development of and execution on line of business strategy for liability and workers compensation claims; ensure complex claims teams and the broader Claims organization are aware and adhering to line of business strategiesMaintain a deep understanding of the casualty claims/litigation landscape; attend applicable industry events/conferences; conduct line of business and industry research, identify and understand trends and make adjustments to line of business strategies accordinglyProvide formal updates to the executive team and other key stakeholders regarding overall line of business performance and on specific claims, cases and/or events; clearly communicate emergent strategies to Claims and the broader organizationPerform retroactive file reviews on select files to learn from Claims’ successes and failures and apply learnings over time; contribute to Claims’ vision of being the most intelligent organization possibleEnsure reserve and payment accuracy; provide reserve and payment authority up to a certain threshold; develop and maintain appropriate control mechanismsMaintain a watch list of complex, large loss or potential large loss casualty claims; facilitate proactive round table discussions on appropriate claims with claims managers, supervisors and handlers; assist in developing claim-level strategy as neededIn collaboration with other members of the claims leadership team and the broader organization, develop and maintain Central’s large loss and reinsurance reporting processes and capabilities; facilitate annual reinsurance auditResponsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions and developing capabilitiesMake informed strategic and operational business decisions by identifying and analyzing trends and improvement opportunities through the effective use of resources, tools and metricsWhat you will bring:Master’s degree in or related field and 6 years of casualty claims handling or case management experience in the Insurance industry including 2 years of management experienceOr Bachelor’s degree in or related field and 8 years of casualty claims handling or case management experience in the Insurance industry including 2years of management experienceOr 10 years of years of casualty claims handling or case management experience in the Insurance industry including 2 years of management experiencePreferred QualificationsCPCU, and/or juris doctor preferredClaims experience in both Personal Lines and Commercial Lines Knowledge Skills and Abilities Technical and business management acumen; advanced claims investigations and resolution skills; advanced knowledge of insurance and claims handling principles, practices and proceduresProven ability to manage complex litigationExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and teamsKnowledge of claims, loss control, underwriting and premium audit disciplinesStrong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolutionAdvanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skillsAdvanced business acumen, technical knowledge, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies
