Central New Mexico Community College is Hiring a Distribution coordinator Near Farmington, NM

Position Summary

This position supports the operations of the Harvest Food Hub by providing coordinated delivery of produce to various locations throughout San Juan County.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Coordinates delivery of produce boxes and orders to local restaurants, school delivery, hospitals, senior centers, and community centers throughout San Juan County (Shiprock, Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield).
  • Performs cash handling duties including collecting payments or receipts from customers and reconciling cash and equivalents to receipts;

maintaining accurate records and following internal controls and proper cash handling procedures; as assigned.

  • Loads vehicles, ensuring that product quality is maintained.
  • Set up pick-up sites in various locations.
  • Helps at storefront with Retail Market, as needed.
  • Handles food according to safe food handling practices.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Prepares for and assists volunteers in examining perishable foods for quality and disposes of food not suitable for consumption and boxes up food suitable for distribution.
  • Works with staff to identify projects and needed supplies for distribution services.
  • Maintains positive customer relationships with volunteers, partner agencies and producers.
  • Ensures that all stock and inventory items are maintained in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, standards and program guidelines - executes physical count.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance and recording of inventory levels for food and nonfood items.
  • Observes all local, state, and federal regulations in warehouse operations.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.
  • Knowledge and skill in the operation of a large vehicle (van).
  • Knowledge in delivering produce and food safety requirements for food businesses.
  • Knowledge and skills in basic financial management (counting money, keeping track of invoices, receipt writing).
  • Knowledge and skill to use basic spreadsheets such as excel.
  • Skill in the provision of customer services.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in time management.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment by following all safety practices and food safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Harvest Food Hub Project Manager assigns work in terms of specific, sometimes general instructions that may require some use of judgement.

The supervisor reviews most of all of the completed work to check for compliance with established procedures.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the Food Safety Modernization Act, FDA, New Mexico Environment Department, and state / federal / municipal food codes along with standard pperating procedures for handling of produce, and cleaning of vehicle and other items.

Guidelines are clear and specific.

COMPLEXITY / SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists delivering produce to customers and tracking money received. Ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and customer service as well as maintaining an organized delivery route adds to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Harvest Food Hub and Enterprise Center with effective distribution coordination.

Success in this position contributes to providing produce to the community and fulfilling the overall mission of the San Juan College Harvest Food Hub.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, general public, representatives with other organizations, student workers, volunteers and farmers.
  • Contacts are typically to provide services (deliver products), give or exchange information, resolve problems, collaborate with others and to conduct outreach for the program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while standing or walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee regularly lifts moderately heavy objects such as boxes of produce.
  • The work is typically in a stockroom or warehouse and outdoors in occasionally cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, gloves, goggles, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to be bonded.
  • One-year food handling or farm (post-harvest) experience preferred.
  • One year of customer services experience preferred.
