Profile of a Natick Educator

JOB GOAL: The Data Systems Administrator reports to the Data Manager and is responsible for identifying and implementing data integrations, reviewing and establishing workflows, and training users of various administrative systems across the school district and town. This will include maintaining a consistent level of quality and adequate level of controls to mitigate risks, improve efficiency, reduce cost and ensure data integrity and data privacy. 

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years progressive experience within an information systems environment.
  • Experience with relational database administration, design, system analysis, various third party reporting packages and query languages are desired.
  • Experience with Google productivity apps; Advanced experience with Google Sheets
  • Familiar with the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Familiar with Backup, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.
  • Team player who can effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience dealing with outside vendors.
  • Experience in a public school or town environment is also a plus.

  • Thorough understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to student, staff and community engagement and cultivation

Skills:

  • Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
  • Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable
  • Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
  • Candidates must be flexible and collaborative
  • Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth
  • Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production

Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Phone, intercom, personal computer and software applications as outlined above, scanner, copy machine, calculator, camera, printers and fax machine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)

  • Track the existing data integrations that exist between systems. Identify opportunities to change manual importing and exporting to automated scheduled syncing. Maintain and share integration workflow details on a data flow diagram.
  • Provide day-to-day support of various administrative systems to ensure all functionality of these systems is available to all internal and external customers. This include but is not limited to:
    • ClassLink - Software Access Management & Rostering
    • PowerSchool - SIS, HR Applicant Tracking & Records Database
    • Munis - Townwide ERP System
    • Apptegy & Thrillshare - District and School Websites
    • SchoolMessenger - District Communication System
    • SNAP Health - Health System
    • Mosaic - Point of Sales
    • MySchoolBucks - Electronic Payment Processor
    • Incident IQ - Help Desk Ticketing & Inventory Database
    • Destiny - Library Services
    • Ident-A-Kid - Visitor Management
  • Function as a backup resource to the PowerSchool Administrator.
  • Work with the Data Manager to identify key processes or procedures to prioritize and what standards to use to audit and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Research and identify additional controls or audit tasks to mitigate our risks of system failures, data breaches, data integrity, data privacy and rising costs.
  • Report and track all issues that require follow-up, both internally and/or externally, with staff and/or software vendors from discovery until resolution.
  • Serve as a resource and trainer and ensure user requests and needs are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Work on and manage special projects as assigned by the Data Manager.
  • Remain current on industry trends in information technology, investigate new technologies and make recommendations to the Data Manager.

  • position oneself to maintain files and access school/classroom/office materials;
  • communicate with others so that information received and given is understood and accurately communicated;
  • communicate and collaborate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person, via video conference, on the telephone, and/or in writing;
  • observe details at close range
  • in the school setting, ensure the safety of students;
  • multitask and meet multiple demands from several people;
  • may need to teach and support students with life skills development such as eating, cleaning, and toileting 
  • lifting up to and including 25 lbs
  • the noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
