COMPENSATION And BENEFITS
  • $24.50 - $28.67, depending upon approved accepted experience
  • Longevity pay after completion of 6 years of employment
  • Annual COLA pay increase (as negotiated with Oregon School Employees Association)
  • Annual step pay increase awarded to eligible employees
  • 8 paid holidays annually
  • 10 paid sick leave days per year
  • 2 paid personal leave days per year
  • 5 paid bereavement leave days per year, per occurrence
  • Up to $1976. per month district-paid contribution toward full-family medical, dental and vision insurance

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANTPurpose: The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant contributes to the specialized educational services to students with special needs in the area of speech and language communication.
Reports to: Speech Language Pathologist and Principal
Nature of Work: The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant works independently following standardized routines under close supervision. The nature of the work requires adherence to policies, procedures, and regulations. This job requires frequent interaction with students and as such requires a high level of professional decorum as well as the ability to act as a role model for young people.
Supervision Exercised: No direct supervision exercised.
Interface: Primarily interfaces with and students, colleagues, administrators, and families.
Essential Job Functions
  • Assists Speech Language Pathologist with the assessment and treatment of students with speech and language challenges.
  • Provides direct treatment to students in accordance with an established instructional plan and under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Assists in planning appropriate interventions for identified students and collecting data to assess their effectiveness.
  • Documents student progress toward instructional plan objectives.
  • Works with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce instruction from the Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Conducts speech and language screenings, without interpretation, in accordance with specified protocols.
  • Adapts instructional materials for teacher use in the classroom as determined by student needs.
  • Performs various clerical tasks, including maintaining student records and reports, preparing instructional and classroom materials and maintaining speech and language equipment.
  • Maintains effective and respectful working relationships with staff and students.

Required Qualifications
  • Must possess an associate’s degree or other certification from an accredited speech language pathology assistant program.
  • Must possess an Oregon state speech-language pathology assistant certification.
  • Must possess an Oregon state driver’s license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and follow multi-step written and verbal instructions in English.
Working ConditionsThe Speech Language Pathology Assistant works primarily indoors. The position requires the ability to speak with proper English enunciation, pronunciation and grammar. It further requires the ability to hear and write. The incumbent will also occasionally be required to kneel, bend or crouch. Potential exposures may include blood-borne pathogens and sick, injured or agitated students. The position requires high levels of interaction with children from diverse backgrounds, many of whom experience behavior, academic, or physiological challenges.
