    School District #6 is located in the famous Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon, nestled between the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges.     POSITION: TOSA - Student Guidance Coordinator
    BUILDING: Scenic Middle School
    POSITION START DATE: August, 2024
    COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:
    • $44,848.65 - $84,652.92, depending upon approved accepted experience. Salary listed is 23/24 pay rate. 2024/2025 salary is TBD.
    • Service Premium pay after completion of 10 years of employment
    • Annual COLA pay increase (as negotiated with Oregon Education Association)

    1. Oregon TSPC License. School Counselor License preferred.

    TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT (TOSA)
    Student Services Department - Student Guidance Coordinator
    Purpose:
    The TOSA position provides academic guidance to students and coordinates other supports as assigned. TOSAs will meet annually with building administration to identify job priorities. District 6 maintains the right of assignment over TOSA positions.
    Reports to: Principal
    Nature of Work:
    The TOSA performs work of a regular and recurring nature under general supervision. The nature of the work requires strict adherence to policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. The incumbent interfaces daily with students, parents, school administrative staff and school employees. Because this job involves frequent interaction with students, the position requires a high level of professional decorum, excellent judgment, a calm and appropriate demeanor, and the capacity to serve as a role model to young people.
    Supervision Exercised:
    No direct supervision exercised.
    Interface:
    Primarily interfaces with students, school staff, parents, district administrators, local and state agencies and resources.
    Essential Job Functions:
    Academic Support
    • Provide academic guidance to students, assisting in course selection, goal-setting, and educational planning.
    • Collaborate with teachers to identify academic strengths and areas for improvement in students, and to identify academic needs and facilitate targeted interventions.
    • Implement interventions and support strategies to ensure academic success.
    • Monitor student progress and implement academic improvement plans as necessary.
    • Implement academic support programs to address students’ individual learning needs.
    • Collaborate with teachers to provide additional resources and interventions for struggling students.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic support initiatives.
    Attendance Support
    • Monitor and address attendance issues, working closely with parents, teachers, and administrators.
    • Implement strategies to improve and maintain high levels of student attendance.
    • Collaborate with the school's attendance team to identify and address patterns of chronic absenteeism.
    • Work closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to improve and maintain strong attendance records.
    • Implement strategies to reduce absenteeism and enhance student engagement.
    Social-Emotional Support
    • Foster a positive and inclusive school environment by addressing the social and emotional needs of students.
    • Provide guidance on interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and stress management.
    • Implement programs and activities that promote a healthy socio-emotional climate.
    • Collaborate with mental health professionals to address students’ mental health needs.
    Tiered Support
    • Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to implement tiered support systems for students with diverse needs.
    • Monitor and adjust interventions based on student response to tiered support.
    • Participate in Student Support Teams to develop and implement personalized plans for student success.
    Behavior Support
    • Address behavioral concerns among students through proactive strategies and interventions.
    • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop and implement behavior improvement plans.
    • Facilitate social skills training and behavior management workshops for students as needed.
    • Assign disciplinary measures as outlined in the school behavior plan.
    Transition Assistance
    • Assist students in the transition from one grade level to the next, providing information and support for course selection and long-term academic planning.
    • Collaborate to ensure a smooth transition for students.
    • Develop and implement transition programs for students entering high school or preparing for graduation.
    • Support students in college and career readiness.
    Crisis Intervention and Referral
    • Identify students in crisis or in need of additional support services.
    • Facilitate referrals to appropriate counselors, social workers, or external agencies to address students' mental health and well-being.
    • Collaborate with crisis intervention teams and community agencies to ensure a coordinated response.
    Student Services
    504 Plan Development and Maintenance
    • Identify students who qualify for 504 plans based on individual needs.
    • Work with parents, teachers, and relevant professionals to develop and implement effective 504 plans.
    • Regularly review and update 504 plans to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
    Homeless Student Services
    • Serve as main McKinney Vento liaison working with agencies including DHS to support the enrollment and education of homeless students, including students awaiting foster care placements.
    • Identify and assist homeless students, providing necessary resources and support.
    • Collaborate with community organizations to address the unique challenges faced by homeless students.
    • Advocate for homeless students to ensure their rights and needs are met.
    Collaboration and Professional Development
    • Collaborate with other Student Guidance Coordinators, teachers, and administrators to share best practices and enhance overall student support.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed about counseling strategies, academic trends, and student success initiatives.

    Required Qualifications:
    Possesses current TSPC Licensure.
    Working Conditions:
    The TOSA works primarily in a school building. Although the primary work is indoors, the TOSA may on occasion work outdoors supervising students in variable weather conditions, including inclement weather. The incumbent must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. The incumbent will need to walk quickly at times, as well as speak and hear in often loud environments.
    The position involves a high level of interaction with students and families from multiple and diverse backgrounds, many with unique needs. The incumbent must maintain composure under stress and must manage effectively in the presence of emotionally challenging interactions with staff, students, and parents.
    Work Year: As negotiated in the collective bargaining agreement.
