Central Stone Company has an immediate opening for an Environmental Specialist, based in our Fenton, Missouri regional office. Your primary function in this role is to verify and document environmental regulatory compliance, conduct employee training, prepare plans and reports, complete permit applications, and coordinate emergency response plans.

Environmental Specialist major responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Environmental Manager, Area Managers and other Site Management to ensure initiatives are properly aligned and executed throughout the region to meet or exceed corporate and site specific environmental compliance.
  • Perform regular site audits for compliance with USEPA, state agency regulations and company rules/policies and procedures; make recommendations, champion change and recognize positive achievements/behaviors.
  • Continuously engage the workforce to ensure needs and compliance are met; enforce a positive environmental culture, and participate with onsite regulatory agency inspections.
  • Identify training needs for the region; design, develop, and implement training programs as needed.
  • Facilitate annual environmental compliance training as required.
  • Ensure contractors comply with all company, state, and federal regulations while on company property.
  • Obtain required certification to conduct periodic sampling and observation as needed and coordinate with specialty consultants to perform required testing

The ideal Environmental Specialist candidate will have:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hazardous Materials Management or related subject or equivalent experience and training.
  • Three years of environmental experience, preferably in a mining or construction environment.
  • State environmental regulatory agency experience, with USEPA and Corps of Engineers experience a strong plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with Microsoft Access a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and set priorities appropriately.
