JOB SUMMARY: Provides social services and assistance to improve communication, and the social and psychological well-being of students for maximizing the academic functioning and to support appropriate behaviors within the school community. Provide leadership in developing a positive school climate and work collaboratively with administration, personnel, families and community professionals as appropriate to increase accessibility and effectiveness of services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties, responsibilities, and expectations set forth in this position are to be carried out in a manner that will ensure the continued goodwill, cooperation, and confidence of parents, staff, administration, and the Board of School Directors.
Provides crisis intervention to students and families when difficult situations occur. Provides individual and group counseling and mediation services.
Provides individual and small group counseling on various issues impacting student learning Provides short term family counseling when appropriate
Identifies cases involving domestic abuse or other family problems affecting student development. Encourages parental involvement with the learning environment through correspondence, conferences, and other means.
Conducts post-treatment follow-up with students returning from treatment rehabilitation programs. Conducts assessments of individuals, families, and system/organizations(classroom, school, neighborhood, district) with the goal of improving student social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes.

Actively participates in professional development training, conferences and/or classes. Assist administration in establishing and maintaining school-based discipline and a positive learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate a high degree of interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and adaptability. Each essential duty must be performed in a satisfactory manner. The incumbent must have the ability to work independently, as well as a team member, assume responsibility and take initiative where appropriate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above, in addition to the following: Under most circumstances, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and sit. The employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb steps; stoop, kneel, or crouch. Employees are regularly required to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
