Position Overview:As a Family Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, NC, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive primary care services to our nation's veterans and their families. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Primary Care Services: Provide primary care services to patients of all ages, including health maintenance, disease prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic health conditions.
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough physical examinations, medical history reviews, and diagnostic screenings to assess patient health status, formulate accurate diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Chronic Disease Management: Manage and monitor chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular disease, utilizing evidence-based guidelines and best practices to optimize patient outcomes.
- Acute Care: Evaluate and manage acute illnesses and injuries, including minor procedures, wound care, and suturing, in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Medication Management: Prescribe medications and therapies within the scope of practice and in accordance with established protocols and guidelines, ensuring safe and effective pharmacotherapy while monitoring for adverse effects and drug interactions.
- Health Promotion and Education: Educate patients and their families about preventive healthcare measures, lifestyle modifications, and self-management strategies to promote wellness and improve overall health outcomes.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care, facilitate referrals, and ensure continuity of care for patients.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHRs), documenting patient encounters, assessments, interventions, and follow-up care in compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement activities to enhance the delivery of healthcare services, promote patient safety, and ensure compliance with VA regulations and standards of care.
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of North Carolina
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician Services by the American Board of Family Practice
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant in family medicine or primary care
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) documentation
