Job Summary

The plant Electrician will be a key member of the Company’s Operations and Maintenance team, responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of the plant’s industrial electrical equipment. Reporting directly to the Electrical and Controls Manager. The group operates under a flat structure, and the successful candidate will have regular visibility and direct access to the Director of Operations.

The successful candidate will be a critical member of the team, ensuring the successful execution of providing our customers with steam and chilled water on a 24/7/365 basis. Electricians work 8 hour shifts Monday through Friday. The successful candidate will also be expected to work well as part of a team.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, strong commitment to deadlines and team, is process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and has a superior knowledge of steam and chilled water systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, VFD’s, motor starters, disconnects, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and protective relays.
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, and UPS systems
  • Utilize a preventive maintenance program to complete tasks and keep maintenance records
  • Effectively communicate and work collaboratively at all levels of the organization in diverse work group settings and in concert with external resources.
  • Effectively use a variety of media (i.e., MS office suite, etc.) to convey technical data, concepts, and ideas.
  • Read complex schematics, wiring diagrams and shop drawings for the purpose of installation, troubleshooting, and repairing of major systems and minor subsystems and components
  • Connects, disconnects, and tags out equipment and circuits for test or repair and safety of personnel and equipment
  • Performs installations in compliance with the national electrical code.
  • Performs basic mechanical repairs as required
  • Maintains shop and storage areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Maintains the safe and efficient use of materials, tools, test equipment and personal safety and all others working in the vicinity.
  • Cleans work area after work is complete.
  • Complies with plant policy and procedures, in particular those involving personnel and equipment safety.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Journeyman experience or the completion of an apprenticeship program.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, hand tools, and industrial equipment.
  • Awareness of national, state, and local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter who can manage projects and make decisions.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and other technical documents.
  • Willing to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lift heavy objects, climbing ladders, crawling, etc.
  • Ability to adhere to all safety requirements
  • Must be willing to work through all holidays, weekends, and over-time when necessary.
  • Must be willing to work during all types of weather events when necessary
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Will work closely with the operations and maintenance lead personnel along with the Plant management.

  • A process-focused individual with a passion to drive and deliver effective change.
  • Current City of Syracuse Masters Electrician license is a plus
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with respect to both managing workload and professional development.

  • Responsible for identifying and reporting workplace HSE hazards and concerns to your supervisor immediately and providing solutions (if aware of any) to address these concerns as requested, and Immediate reporting of all work-related injuries/illness to your supervisor.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful completion of Criminal Background Check and Drug Test
  • Only authorized employees are permitted to use company vehicles, this includes Industrial trucks (forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.) and electric vehicles/golf carts. To be an authorized employee, you must be at least 21 years old, hold a current valid State Drivers' license and demonstrate a clean driving record. The driver must be on an approved list for company insurance purposes. Your driving record will be screened as part of the pre-employment process and annually in December.
  • Vaccination Requirement.
