Job Description: CMM Operator/Technician

Position Title: CMM Operator/Coordinate Measuring Machine Operator

Location: Benson

Reports To: Quality Engineer

Job Summary:

The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Operator/Technician is responsible for the operation, programming, and maintenance of CMM equipment to ensure that parts and products meet precise specifications and quality standards. This role requires a strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), blueprint reading, and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings. The CMM Operator/Technician will play a critical role in quality control, supporting production processes, and ensuring product accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

1.CMM Operation and Programming:

- Set up, operate, and program CMM machines to inspect and measure parts and components according to engineering specifications.

- Develop and maintain CMM programs for new and existing parts.

- Ensure accuracy and repeatability of measurements by calibrating and maintaining CMM equipment.

2.Quality Inspection:

- Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using CMM and other measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).

- Verify conformance to specifications, identify deviations, and document inspection results.

- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.

3.Documentation and Reporting:

- Create and maintain detailed inspection reports, including measurements, tolerances, and deviations.

- Document non-conformances and assist in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

- Maintain records of CMM programs, calibration certificates, and inspection data.

4. Continuous Improvement:

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality control processes and reduce inspection times.

- Recommend and implement improvements to CMM programs and inspection techniques.

5. Maintenance and Calibration:

- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of CMM equipment to ensure optimal performance.

- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with CMM machines and related software.

Qualifications:

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in a related field is preferred.

- -Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and programming CMM equipment in a manufacturing or quality control/Engineering environment.

- Skills:

- Proficiency in CMM programming languages CAD/Cam Modeling Software Knowledge and experience (Creo, Solidworks, or equivalent).

- Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.

- Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements.

- Familiarity with quality control processes and tools i.e. caliper, micrometer, height gages, etc.

- Basic knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis.

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to lift and handle parts and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to stand, sit, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Work Environment:

- Manufacturing or production floor environment with exposure to machinery noise.

- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hearing protection.
