Chaffee County Treasurer's Office seeks a Deputy Treasurer. The Deputy Treasurer performs a variety of activities for the Treasurer's Office in the maintenance of the tax and financial collection for the County. This is a full time (40 hours/week) position working onsite in Salida, Colorado. We offer a 4 day work week, Monday - Thursday. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Deputy Treasurer performs a variety of activities for the Treasurer's Office in the maintenance of the tax and financial collection for the County. Work is performed under general supervision of the County Treasurer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Receives, verifies, and classifies monies received; prepares and balances receipts and posts to journal and line items; prepares related reports; prepares and makes deposits.
- Prepares and distributes certificates of taxes due.
- Prepares warrant reconciliation; tracks and cancels warrants; posts to appropriate accounts.
- Prepares a report for each fund and line item for Finance Office.
- Prepares and distributes tax and delinquent tax notices and verifies related information.
- Performs customer service duties such as telephone and public inquiries, accepting tax payments and making address corrections.
- Processes and distributes requests for tax amounts from mortgage holders and the public.
- Processes and records redemptions; prepares certificates and related reports.
- Assists with annual tax sale including contacting delinquent payers, verification of sale list, collection of sales fees, and recording of purchaser information.
- Assists with processing of abatements and mobile home permitting and authentication of sales and moves.
- Maintains County cash clearing account and works with other departments to issue appropriate refunds.
- Maintains complete and accurate physical and electronic office files.
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Operate office equipment such as a computer, printer, fax, phone, etc.
- Utilize various software programs including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
- Exhibit professional customer service skills.
- High level of attention to details and accuracy.
- Ability to apply organization and time management skills.
- Ability to understand and perform mathematical computations.
- Ability to apply problem solving skills to develop solutions for unanticipated issues.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience working in an office environment
- Experience providing customer service to members of the public
- Notary Public Commission
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience in an accounting related position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to conduct activities involving substantial standing and sitting.
- Ability to lift and/or carry burdens weighing up to 15 lbs. on a daily basis.
- Ability to grasp and manipulate office equipment, hand tools, and similar other tools and materials.
- Ability to conduct activities involving stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, twisting, and reaching on a moderate basis.
- Ability to participate in routine conversation in person or via telephone, and distinguish telephones, printers, computers and other auditory tones.
- Ability to distinguish small objects at near and far distances in conditions of bright or low light. Ability to distinguish depth and see objects in a wide field of vision.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The majority of this position's duties are performed within an indoor environment. The employee may be exposed to noise, mechanical and electrical, and other related hazards associated with an office environment.
