POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Youth Program Coordinator requires an individual that is well-versed in connecting with youth and passionate about elevating youth voice in the community. This position requires the use of skills derived from the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework and focuses on addressing risk factors and promoting protective factors within our youth population. The work this position will be involved in is rooted in prevention programming such as Botvin Lifeskills Training (LST) as well as Toward No Drug Abuse (TND). This worker will also be a leading part of outreach efforts centered on youth challenged by housing instability. This position will require the consistent use of creative thinking while utilizing programs such as Rural Collaborative to support youth toward stability. A portion of this position will involve case management regarding resources youth are enrolled in and receiving to ensure that goals are being set and achieved. The Program Coordinator must be collaborative not only with youth but also with partners in the community, particularly school districts, where LST is implemented. This position is responsible for the youth council and coaching youth advisors. This position will also be charged with the development and management of Voice Council. The position is responsible for recruitment and retention of clients with lived experience who will serve on the council to promote improvement in our local health and human services system. Lastly, this position necessitates an individual that has strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple points of view while advocating for youth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Recruitment and coaching for teen advisory boards/councils, planning and promotion of monthly youth prosocial events, including management of communication and advertising for teen councils.
● Management of youth programs, as well as development of varied opportunities for youth community building and voice; which includes coaching of youth advisors and council members in planning and coordinating at least monthly prosocial activities and youth-led initiatives and advocating for representation on local government working sessions and other opportunities to represent youth voice in community decision making processes.
● Support sustainability of Botvin Lifeskills Training (LST) and other universal prevention curriculum in the school districts of Chaffee County; this includes managing the partnerships and communication between DHS and school districts surrounding prevention work.
● Coordinate between CU Anschutz and school district administrations regarding the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey as well as data analysis and presentation.
● Recruit clients for Voice Council - implement this group and follow parameters set out by this particular grant. Advocate for Voice Council to be included in leadership meetings and decision making processes.
● Conduct outreach events to support homeless youth to enroll in supports and services available.
● Case management of youth enrolled in Rural Collaborative services including documentation and data collection required for this funding source.
● Collaborate with community partners to establish connection with youth in need of services.
● Facilitate “Project Toward No Drug Abuse” (TND) and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) including administering pre/post testing and scheduling meetings with youth and caregivers to evaluate appropriateness of referrals to these programs.
● Adhere to the laws and expectations of the Colorado Children’s Code, Volume VII and Local Practice Models, following agency/division mission, vision, goals and values as guides.
● Partner with internal divisions within DHS in order to access resources for youth.
● Work with the DHS Grant Manager for any assigned program and/or grant to ensure contracted community-based services are monitored and tracked in accordance with program and contract requirements.
● Organizes Positive Youth Development (PYD) training for various community partners including to become a train the trainer.
● Help support CCYA workgroup meetings and activities.
● Drive motor vehicle.
● Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.
● Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Ability to read and understand written materials and compose information instruction in written form.
· Ability to remember schedules, programs, policies and other details, and apply good time management and organization skills.
· Ability to apply problem solving skills in developing solutions for unanticipated issues and challenges.
· Ability to work with other people taking into consideration dynamics, needs, personal styles, and the requirements of their jobs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
· Experience working with youth, specifically at-risk youth.
· Valid Colorado driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to conduct activities involving extensive sitting.
· Ability to lift and/or carry, push, pull burdens weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to grasp and manipulate office equipment, hand tools, and other similar tools and materials.
· Ability to conduct activities involving stooping, kneeling and bending, crouching, twisting and reaching on a moderate basis.
· Ability to participate in routine conversation in person, via telephone or virtually and be able to distinguish telephone, printer, computer and other auditory tones.
· Ability to distinguish small objects at near and far distances in conditions of bright or low light. Ability to distinguish depth and see objects in a wide field of vision.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines and other related office equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The majority of this position’s duties are performed within an indoor or a protected environment. The incumbent may be exposed to noise, mechanical and electrical and other related hazards associated with an office environment.
