The First Line Risk Management Office (1RMO) is a centralized team of risk professionals supporting all of the Schwab 1st Line of Defense (1LOD) business organizations. Responsible for establishing 1LOD governance guidelines to standardize processes, create an efficient and scalable structure, and streamline risk management activities across the 1LOD. Facilitate the risk management process across Business Lines, including risk identification, monitoring, and reporting, and issues management. Facilitate, manage, and execute risk management activities to support 1LOD Business Lines. The Senior Manager, First Line Risk Management – Governance is a critical member of 1RMO responsible for putting in place best-in-class first line of defense risk management capabilities. The Senior Manager will assist in managing programs or initiatives needed to achieve a higher level of maturity and consistency amongst all first line of defense business units within Schwab. In this position you may be required to take on a role within any of the programs and initiatives within 1RMO organization. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following activities:
Administration of 1st LOD Corporate Business Policies and Standards: Work with document owners to facilitate updates and maintain 1st LOD policies and standards to adhere to minimum requirements set for corporate business policies, including serving as a subject-matter expert and administrator on related policy workflow tools
Business Unit Policy Frameworks: Champion and consult with business units on formalization and streamlining of their BU Policy processes, including serving as a subject-matter expert and administrator on related policy workflow tools
Risk Policy Impact Analysis: Conduct periodic reviews of 2nd line risk policies and standards and work with 1st LOD partners to develop processes to comply with 2nd line risk policies and standards
1st LOD Advocate and Outreach: Assist the 1RMO team with educating and outreach regarding 1st and 2nd LOD policies. Assist with the creation of training or support provided, as deemed necessary, to various stakeholders in order to drive awareness and understanding of enterprise-wide risk; Coordinate with 2nd and 3rd LOD on process improvements and communication efforts rolled out to 1st LOD units to ensure effective communication and seamless adoption of evolving enterprise risk requirements
Serve as Application Administrator: Service as application administrator and subject-matter- expert guiding 1LOD business units in using tools available for document maintenance
Other 1st LOD Risk Program Development: Assist the Sr. Team Manager/Director with establishing and maintaining other Company-wide 1st LOD programs related to risk management, as needed
What you have Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree
5 years of experience in Internal Audit, enterprise risk or operational risk with a total of 8 years of professional experience
Financial services industry and risk management experience required, preferably in a risk, audit, or compliance role
Demonstrated experience in lean process and project management, including development of project plans, assignment of tasks, and coordinating communications
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or MBA
Finance/Treasury or technology risk background
Demonstrated background managing to regulatory expectations
Experience in preparing and presenting materials to senior leaders
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a rapidly changing environment
Excellent verbal communication and strong professional maturity
Strong familiarity with prudential standards for risk management
Sharp critical thinking skills (creative, strategic, and practical), ability to focus on the most vital areas, problem-solving skills, and strong business and relationship judgment
Strong presentation skills with the ability to inform and persuade both orally and in writing
Ability to facilitate meetings with middle management
Ability to constructively engage a diverse group of people in a productive dialogue
Proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Visio; working knowledge of SharePoint
