**Duties**

** Summary**

**About the position:**

This position will be assigned to the Youth Programs at the Naval Weapon Station Goose Creek, SC.

This position work schedule will be determined by the needs of the activity.

**Physical Effort:**

Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.

**Responsibilities**

a. Cooking - Prepares a full range of nutritious food for approximately 90 plus children per day, supplying them with the USDA required supplements of vitamins and nutrition. The meals prepared in the center by the cook are the most important meals of the day. Responsible for cooking breakfast, lunch (when school is out), and snacks for the children and responsible for following the correct portion size for all ages. The cook is solely responsible for the measurements and ingredients in the food prepared by herself/himself and the other staff who work in the kitchen. The cook is also responsible for planning special meals such as scheduled events (Parent luncheons, Family Night, etc) and modified children/s diets as needed. Food is prepared, handled, and served according to AF instructions, USDA, CAFB guidelines, and NAA guidlines.

b. Under the guidance of the School Age Program Coordinator or Youth Programs Director, follows preplanned cycle menus and rotates periodically as directed. May prepare and/or assist with preparation of the menus. Adjusts daily menus as required by changing attendance.

c. Determines quantities of food and supplies required. Submits requisitions sufficiently in advance to ensure adequate supply of items on hand. Adjusts orders in accordance with anticipated requirements.

d. Washes, thaws, mixes, fries, steams, stews, boils, bakes, mashes, and otherwise prepares soups, meats, fish, chicken sandwiches, vegetables, etc.

e. Moves heavy garbage cans, and assists in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies.

f. Maintains stoves, refrigerators, equipment, and utensils in sage and sanitary condition. Ensures that dishwasher operation is consistent with sanitation rules. Stores plates, cups, and silverware.

g. Maintains inventory food, supplies, and equipment on hand. Keeps working area clean and safe. Conducts daily self-inspections and maintains copies of inspections.

h. Keeps labels on food and products updated in stock room, cooler and freezer.

i. Conducts monthly and quarterly inventories. Prepares USDA and FDA reports. Maintains inventory and fills out purchase order for necessary supplies.

j. Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.

This position has physical lifting requirements which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.

This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date of hire or assignment position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. **Qualifying Experience:**

Must have knowledge and experience in preparing, cooking, and serving a variety of menu items such as soups, meats, fish, chicken, gravy, sauces, etc. Must have a knowledge of yielding testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standard recipes for altering number of servings required. Must have experience in preparing special and modified diets. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and handle a wide variety of food handling techniques to meet sanitation and safety standards.

**Education**

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

**FOREIGN EDUCATION:** Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
