Summary:

This is a training position serving as pipeline toward a regular or part time Bus Driver position after successfully completing lecture based and hands on NCDOT DMV required training to obtain a Class B CDL and required endorsements in preparation to provide safe, efficient and on-time transportation of children to and from assigned schools on a daily basis.

Note: This is a temporary, training level position under the direction of the certified CDL holder. Candidates who do not complete the license requirement will not be offered employment with CMS.

Essential Duties:

• Obeys all Federal, State, and Local laws, policies, regulations, administrative codes and transportation operation guidelines.
• Obeys all traffic laws; observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses. This includes clearing the school bus and evacuating students quickly in the event of an emergency.
• Maintains safe driver standards and applicable physical and dexterity standards.
• Perform duties identified by the NCDOT DEPS to achieve School Bus Certification.

Education and Experience:

Minimum

• At least 6 months driving experience as a licensed operator of a motor vehicle. (No previous bus driving experience required.)
• Must have a Commercial Learners Permit
• Ability to read, write, and follow directions (written and oral)
• Must be at least 18 years of age

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

• Have the ability to obtain, a valid Class B commercial driver?s license with Passenger and School Bus (P&S) endorsements, and a valid school bus driver certification issued by the NCDMV within 30 days.
• Commercial driver license (CDL) holders and applicants must meet the medical qualifications set by the NC General Statute Medical Qualifications Standards Applicable to Commercial Drivers.
