POSITION: K-12 Community Liaison
REPORTS TO: Principals
STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: Paraprofessional Scale
Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Education, Social Science/Services, Psychology, Sociology, or related field (Bachelor’s Degree Preferred) / Combination of schooling and experience can be considered
  • Bilingual Required (Spanish/English Preferred)
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and/or processes relating to social services and truancy laws for K-12
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills – Ability to write reports and business correspondence; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, families, staff, courts, judicial personnel, community resources and the general public
  • Effective critical thinking skills – Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively handle court appearances and dealings with the courts, attorneys and judges.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize desktop/laptop computer and software (Examples include Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, presentation software, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
JOB GOAL: The K-12 Community Advocate is responsible for providing guidance and advocacy to at risk students to ensure they meet academic and behavioral requirements to move the next grade level and be a successful student. Responsibilities include connecting students and their families to school and community resources, court access, monitoring attendance and discipline, communicating with administration, counselors, students, and families for preventative truancy filing measures. This position will manage a caseload of 20-25 families who have been identified as needing support with social service agencies and may have a child in truancy court.
RESPOSIBILITIES: Performs the following full range of duties to include, but not limited to:
  • Follow CHPA policies and administrative rules and regulations
  • Communicates accurately and timely with students and their families to ensure a continuous school family partnership exists
  • Evaluate student progress including attendance, academic, and behavioral data
  • Coordinate with community partners to build resources for students and families
  • Makes home visits to obtain and communicate information about students
  • Keep accurate records of student, parent, staff, and community contacts
  • Participate in stakeholder conferences to develop student action plans that can help prevent the path to Truancy Court
  • Supports a positive school climate while interacting with students, families, staff and community members
  • Attends truancy court or social service appointments to support families/student as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with students, families, staff, and community members
  • Facilitate social and emotional growth with students
  • Participates in Family Support Team meetings at each site
  • Have an awareness of positive youth development and sponsor strength-based activities for students who are at risk of dropping out of school for prevention measures
  • Promotes positive student engagement for students and families within the school, community and home setting
  • Promotes school wide positive attendance and positive behavior within the school setting
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
