Chelsea - Student Services is Hiring an English Language Learner Specialist (immediate or 2024-25 School Year) Near Chelsea, MA

Our school for students from pre-kindergarten to age 22 is hiring a ELL/Multilingual Learner Specialist to work with students in all of our programs.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • Provides individualized English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Learners in accordance with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and WIDA standards. 
  • Demonstrates cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally relevant instructional practices. 
  • Collaborate with teachers to help students master content and language objectives
  • Advise teachers on accommodating curriculum for ELL students
  • Collaborate with teachers to modify curriculum when necessary
  • Provide coaching to teachers around best practices for working with multilingual learners.
  • Assists with the oversight and delivery of Massachusetts state test (ACCESS) and administers screening tests and student assessments to guide instruction
  • Completes necessary paperwork regarding the identification, progress monitoring, re-evaluation and reclassification of English Learners. 
  • Attends building meetings and supervision meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff. 
  • Monitors the implementation of EL Student Success Plans with our sending districts. 
  • Understands and complies with the state policies, rules, and regulations regarding English Learners. 
  •  Demonstrates effective techniques of classroom management, behavioral interventions, and communication to engage students. 
  •  Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (Advanced educational preparation in the area of ESL preferred); Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Current and Valid MA DESE licensure in ESL; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of ESL instruction and second language acquisition;
  • Experience supporting bilingual/bicultural students with disabilities.

Bi- and multilingual candidates preferred.

Salary is based on education and experience. 
This position will participate in the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System.
