Job Overview
The Director of Athletics Engagement in the Office of Advancement at Georgetown University leads and manages the Athletics Engagement team, which serves as the key strategic partner in the creation, planning, communication and execution of 100 Advancement-led annual engagement and stewardship experiences for the constituents of Georgetown Athletics' 30 varsity sports programs in the form of signature events, donor-hosted salon dinners and receptions, and on-and off- campus activities tied to sporting competitions designed to engage and steward current and prospective donors to the Georgetown Athletics program. The team is also responsible for all non-solicitation and stewardship communications.
They also oversee the planning, advising, and facilitating of engagement opportunities for the Athletics Department; lead and manage the stewardship of Athletics donors; act as the primary liaison for Men's Basketball from the Athletics Engagement Team; and manage the volunteer boards and support clubs for each sport.
The Director leads the team in helping to strategize and promote engagement opportunities to increase financial investments in the Athletics' Department's top fundraising priorities, working closely with the Senior Director of Athletics Development and the Athletics Annual Giving team to achieve these goals; and provides coordination and direction for internal stakeholders within the Office of Advancement and Athletics Department on these efforts.
The also manage a team of two full-time team members and a student-worker, with the aspiration to grow and further build the team in the future; and engage our current and potential Athletics donors - a key focus for our successful fundraising growth within the department.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the Athletics Engagement team, oversee planning efforts related to the team personnel and budget setting. This list should be a simplified version of the detailed Responsibilities section below.
  • In partnership with the Athletics department, Development, and other relevant teams, drive annual engagement planning activities.
  • Lead and oversee the annual review and planning process for donor engagement touchpoints such as, anniversary celebrations, alumni weekends, signature athletics events, and bespoke cultivation events.
  • Partner closely with the head coaches and sports administrators, in addition to Development Officers, on strategies to build relationships with alumni, parents, and friends based on sport, with an eye towards deepening their connection with and knowledge of the university and its strategic priorities.
  • Manage the donor experience for Men's Basketball supporters, including home-game suites, away-game travel, high-level donor events, and regional events; work closely with Athletics Annual Giving and Athletics Department partners on the cultivation and stewardship of season-ticket holders, the Hoya Hoop Club, and other supporters of Men's Basketball.
  • Oversee the organization of the Athletics Committee for the Board of Regents, and the Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors, as well as the other 20 affiliated volunteer support clubs.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics, the Director of Athletics Engagement supervises the Associate Director, Athletics Engagement & Events and the Associate Director of Stewardship & Engagement Communications. Additional interactions include but are not limited to:
  • With donors and other athletics alumni, parents, fans and friends through volunteer events and engagement and by attending Georgetown Athletics varsity sporting events and University-led events and leadership opportunities
  • With key athletic volunteers through the management of the Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors and the 20 volunteer support clubs
  • With staff members of the Athletics Department - for example, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, senior administrators, coaches and support staff
  • With the University's greater alumni population
  • With various members of the Office of Advancement staff including the Director of Athletics Annual Giving
  • With the Office of the President to coordinate Presidential attendance at events and to construct briefings

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 5 to 7 years of professional, relevant work experience
  • Experience in effectively managing and leading direct reports and teams
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated success with leading and managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Extraordinary organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent follow through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and contribute positively and constructively in a team environment
  • A creative, curious, and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong executive presence, confidence in decision-making, and strong project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in higher education and/or athletics fundraising or engagement and familiarity with navigating the landscape
