Cherokee Sheriff's Office is Hiring an Evidence Technician Near Canton, GA

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Evidence Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the property and evidence stored in the property/evidence repository of the agency. This position reports directly to the agency's Evidence Custodian.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains all records pertaining to the receipt, storage, and disposition of all property and evidence.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of all property and evidence.
  • Disposes of all property and evidence in accordance with all state laws and agency policy and procedure.
  • Transports evidence to the crime lab.
  • Enforces agency policy and procedure for evidence/property storage.
  • Handles items of evidence and property, to show the continuity of the chain of custody and security.
  • Performs routine clerical work; duties may include logging in materials and documents, entering data and information into computerized files, filing and retrieving materials from manual or computerized filing system, typing correspondence, memos and other documents, and sorting documents.
  • Operates a computer, photocopier, facsimile, and other office equipment.
  • Operates a County vehicle when necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Be a US Citizen
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Six months of general office work
  • If previous military experience, discharge must not reflect Dishonorably Discharged
  • Not have been convicted of, pled guilty or pled Nolo to a felony or act of Family Violence.
  • Not have been convicted of, pled guilty or pled Nolo to a DUI within the last 5 years.
  • No marijuana usage within the last 2 years.
  • No illegal drug usage within the last 5 years.
  • Never sold illegal scheduled drugs for profit or personal gain.
  • Never illegally distributed any illegal schedule drug for profit or personal gain.
  • Never manufactured, cultivated, or grew any illegal scheduled drug.
  • Must not have stretching or gauging of the earlobes or any other visible body part.
  • Must not have any tattoos or intentional scaring on the hands*, ears, head, face, or neck area.

*If applicant has a finger tattoo in order to be permissible it must be able to be covered by one agency approved ring
