A Day in the Life of a TeleSitter Monitor Technician:

This position provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients on the Telesitter Device. Patients must be monitored for their safety while on the device. The first line of action will be to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in any at risk behaviors. Next will be to summon the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:

  • Uses AvaSure® software to continually monitor one or more patients at a time.
  • Maintains visual observation of assigned patient(s) at all times. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room. Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Uses appropriate techniques to provide observation to the patient population requiring TeleSitter® monitoring.
  • Participates in report with on-coming monitor staff when arriving for shift, and upon completion of shift. Reviews pertinent information and behaviors. 
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Provides floor staff with information in a timely fashion when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to appropriate staff members.
  • Participates in safe work practices, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs.
  • Maintains patient dignity and privacy.

ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

SITTER: May monitor patients via department cameras or be assigned to provide 1:1 observation for patient safety. Receives report from PSA/CNA and primary nurse, including reason for requiring additional observation, appropriate interventions, and any other pertinent information relevant to the safety of the patient. Appropriately documents and notifies nursing staff of patient activity/behaviors.

  • Ability to remain alert at all times while on duty
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset
  • Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes
  • Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff
  • Basic computer operation skills
  • Basic Microsoft windows experience
  • Efficiency in multitasking
  • Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of Avasure system
  • Demonstrates proficient skills in 1:1 sitter environment

Here Is What You Will Need:

  • High school diploma (or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program) or higher degree
  • Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date

Nice To Have:

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment
