Chicago Housing Authority is Hiring an Accountant (HCV) Near Chicago, IL
SUMMARY
Performs accounting and auditing work to support the HCV Programs and ensure transactions are properly recorded in CHA's general ledgers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare assigned journal entries for the required systems (Lawson and Yardi).
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations to ensure transactions report in the general ledger is reflected correctly.
- Perform research on outstanding payables and receivables to determine the accuracy of the balance; prepares report of noted discrepancies and makes recommendation for resolution.
- Review and ensure transactions are properly recorded in Yardi and Lawson.
- Record payments received from debt collection and landlord overpayments.
- Interact with HCV Programs/Operations to gather any missing documentation or support and maintain a log for follow-up.
- Reconcile and maintain log for unclaimed properties and voided checks; reviewing and performing research as necessary.
- Perform general research, review and analysis to provide effective technical support to the Authority's management staff.
- Review and keep abreast of policies, procedures, and reports related to area of responsibilities.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliation
- Reconcile and maintain report of payments received through PayPal; ensuring receipts are properly recorded monthly.
- Perform all other related duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline and three (3) years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and strong Microsoft Excel skill. Housing Choice Voucher Program experience or Yardi knowledge is considered a plus. This position requires effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize assignments and work within established deadlines. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic and sense of team, flexibility and excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
