School Counseling Job Description
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in School Counseling
- Professional Educator Certificate in School Counseling
- Ability to pass a background check
Reports to:
School Administration
Job Goal:
To implement a comprehensive school counseling and guidance program as well as provide related services that positively contribute to student and institutional success.
Responsibilities:
- Collect, organize, analyze, and utilize data for the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students.
- Work collaboratively with school administration/staff to develop conditions conducive to the operation of an effective comprehensive school counseling program.
- Develop plans and procedures for effective small and whole group guidance activities.
- Provides orientations/presentations to guardians/stakeholders/students as necessary.
- Plan instructional activities with teachers related to tier one school counseling services.
- With school staff, including Special Education, provide appropriate academic placement of students utilizing data from student interest, standardized test scores, academic grades, guardian input, and educator recommendations.
- Assist students/guardians in making informed subject choices related to future goals.
- Identify school and community related activities/resources for student success.
- Assure accuracy of data that accompanies the request for refer services.
- Collaborate with mental health personnel to ensure guardians are aware of available referral services.
- Develop plans and procedures for continuous evaluation of the effectiveness of the comprehensive school counseling and guidance program.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities related to professional growth in the field.
- Be an active member of the school MTSS team.
- Cooperate with local, state, federal, and university-sponsored research studies when appropriately related and properly coordinated.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines as well as all local, state, and federal policies/laws.
- Any other duties assigned by school / district administration.
Terms of Employment:
- Salary and benefits shall be consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.
- The position is an 11-month position.
- This position will serve grades 7-12
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
