What you will do in your role

The Family Peer Advocate services are a wide array of formal and informal activities and supports provided to families caring for/raising a child who is experiencing social, emotional, medical, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges in their home, school, placement, and/or community. These services provide a structured, strength-based relationship between the Family Peer Advocate and the parent/caregiver for the benefit of the child/youth. Services are delivered in a trauma informed, culturally and linguistically competent manner. The FPA will function as an integral part of the CFTSS team.

  • Promote growth of the parent-child relationship as indicated by that plan, as well as the agency’s philosophy of family centered practice.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with the children and their families that are responsive to their needs and are in accordance with the established treatment plan.
  • Maintain good relationships through collaboration and advocacy on client’s behalf with DSS, community agencies, schools, staff and other service providers.
  • Use family centered practice approaches in service delivery and case planning in treatment, permanency planning and discharge.
  • Teach parents/caregivers to provide for the safety and well-being of at-risk children, through the judicious use of discipline, strength-based interventions and supervision. Communicate any concerns to supervisor.
  • Provide safe and responsible transports for youth, families and other Children’s Home affiliates as required by the program. Educate parents/caregivers on how to access public transportation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
  • NYS Family Peer Advocate credential is required within one year of employment.
  • Must have PERSONAL "LIVED EXPERIENCE" as a parent/primary caregiver who has navigated multiple child serving systems on behalf of their child(ren) with social emotional, developmental, health and/or behavioral health care needs.
  • Must have valid Driver's License and ability to maintain insurance throughout employment.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Evening shift
  • Monday to Friday
