Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety, a program of Children’s Home Society, in Sioux Falls, SD is currently seeking an Assistant Program Director to help develop, implement and supervise Shelter for Family Safety programs and employees.

 What You’ll Do: 

  • Program Management: Make budgetary recommendations according to program needs. Coordinate with referring agencies concerning program services. Provide back-up in the absence of the Program Director. Oversee daily operations of shelter programs. Develop and evaluate programs. Provide on-call duties as assigned. Ensure safety standards and infection control policies are followed.
  • Team Management: Monitor performance and conduct performance appraisals. Assist in planning, developing and implementing training for direct service employees. Screen, interview, hire, and terminate direct service employees. Assist with personnel orientation and coordination of new employee training. Oversee staffing coverage, including holidays. Facilitate staff/team meetings as assigned.
  • Compliance: Assist with development of policies and procedures; review and approve new forms or protocols developed in shelter. Ensure safe childcare practices are utilized in accordance with licensing standards. Oversee maintenance of Electronic Records System for client files. Ensure programs are in compliance with licensing standards.
  • Client Relations: Ensure physical, emotional, and safety needs of clients are met. Approve, deny or terminate adult and child shelter stays as necessary. Provide direct crisis intervention and case management services to adult and child victims of abuse.
  • Community Relations: Promote services within community. Provide public education presentations.

  • Must be able to provide courteous, personal attention to promote individual client satisfaction and the public perception and reputation of the Agency. 
  • Must be able to get important points across and understand the needs of clients. Listens carefully to complex issues in order to effectively respond. Difficult and sensitive issues require careful articulation so as to preserve a relationship or to prevent misunderstanding and potential liability to the Agency. 
  • Must be able to conduct oneself in a manner that promotes professionalism and teamwork throughout the Agency, setting an example for others to follow. Responsibility for highly confidential and sensitive information requires ethics and professionalism beyond reproach.
  • Analyzes and develops timely, conclusive solutions to a variety of more complex issues. Must resolve personnel issues and conflicts that arise, where there is little or no precedent, in such a way that maintains a positive work environment and prevents legal liability.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (Some evening and weekend required as needed) On-call as needed. 

Compensation: $60,000-$75,000/annually (Depending on Education/Experience)

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, social work, or related field required. Master’s Degree in counseling, social work or related field preferred.
  • Experience: supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software utilized by the office.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Environment focused on care of individuals in crisis situations. The employee is regularly required to bend and sit on the floor. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff.
