Job OverviewPerforms high quality diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients to include general, gynecological, vascular and pediatric specific exams. Provides conscientious patient care while adhering to all quality and safety standards. Performs administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, and maintenance of records. This position is responsible for communicating regularly with patients, families, and all hospital and community caregivers while following department expectations for interactions with patients and families. This position is required to work at all Children's Colorado locations and be on call as needed.

Shift: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Night shift 6p to 630a to include a holidays.
Qualifications
  • EDUCATION : Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
  • CERTIFICATION(S) :
    • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) specialty required; Registered Vascular Technologist (VT) required within one year of hire; Pediatric Sonography specialty required within 2 years of hire
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider
ResponsibilitiesPOPULATION SPECIFIC CARENeonate- < 30 days

  • School age-> 5yrs to 13 yrs

  • Adult- >18 yrs to 65 yrs Essential FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
    • Performs high quality ultrasound images while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology using scanning protocols.
    • Facilitates patient flow daily; to include management of STAT/urgent and high priority patients.
    • Provides age-appropriate care and appropriately prepares patients for procedures.
    • Provides clear and detailed information regarding the procedure and care to patients, families, coworkers, and others.
    • Operates all Ultrasound equipment; to include ancillary equipment following safety procedures and protocols.
    • Demonstrates and maintains competency and ability to use all aspects of Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.
    • In the event of an emergency will act as first responder and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) until help arrives.
    • Verifies patient allergies and clinical indications prior to contrast administration. Safely administers contrast using the five rights. Ensures contrast is appropriately ordered and documented in patients’ medical record.
    • Assists Provider with procedures as necessary (Maintaining technologist Scope of Practice). Follows established procedural guidelines; documents appropriate information as required; practices aseptic/sterile technique and standard precautions when necessary.
    • Follows department policies, procedures and protocols. Raises or addresses concerns regarding non-compliance or patient/staff safety.
    • Follows established quality assurance/control (QA/QC) and safety programs to include The Joint Commission, American College of Radiology (ACR), and the State of Colorado.
    • Promptly reports equipment malfunctions or errors and contacts respective service engineer or Biomed for repair.
    • Communicates clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms, following established department guidelines for customer service.
    • Maintains flexibility around shift scheduling, location, call requirements, over-time and weekend assignments to align with organizational need.

    Supervision Received: Under close supervision, the employee receives training to develop skills and abilities in a specific line of work or general occupational area. Work product is subject to close, continuous inspection.

    Salary Information
    Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $75,957.07 to $113,935.61
    Hourly Salary Range: $36.52 to $54.78
