Children's Hospital Of The King's Daughters is Hiring an EMT (Communications Specialist) Near Norfolk, VA

Be part of our team. CHKD is seeking an experienced and professional hospital Communications Specialist to facilitate health, healing, and hope for our patients and their amazing families. This role is with the Transfer and Communications Center KIDCOM department at the Main Hospital in Norfolk, VA and maintains a typical schedule of full time, days/evenings. Part-time and PRN roles available as well.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for coordinating the timely and efficient management of emergency patient referrals via 911 radio, telephone and other communication systems. Work involves receiving critical information from healthcare providers, identifying and triaging referrals for critically ill and injured patients and the timely and appropriate documentation of relevant information into hospital databases. Reports to department leadership.

An ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current State of Virginia certification as an EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P or NREMT-P (Nationally Registered Emergency Technician - Paramedic). Will consider EMT-B with relevant experience and planned completion of an EMT-A within 1 year.
  • Must have current certification / licensure upon hire and must maintain certification throughout employment in job role.
  • ACLS & PALS or PEPP certification required.
  • Certification in trauma preferred.
  • Must possess current CPR certification.
  • Two (2) years of clinical/EMS experience required.
  • Previous dispatching experience preferred.
