The Children's Guild is a nonprofit organization serving children, families, and child-serving organizations. The Children's Guild operates the Monarch Academy public charter and contract schools, Monarch Preschool College Park, The Children's Guild DC Public Charter School, The Children's Guild Transformation Academy, the TranZed Academy for Working Students, TranZed Apprenticeships, therapeutic group homes, treatment foster care, and outpatient mental health clinics. We are among the most experienced child-serving organizations in the Greater Baltimore/Washington region and are currently expanding in national and international programs. The Teacher will provide instruction for students in a K-8 setting and provide related educational services. The Teacher reports directly to the Principal.

Responsibilities

The Teacher is responsible for:

  • Developing age and appropriate content lessons aligned to the Common Core State
  • Collaborating with other team members and administration
  • Attending professional development and staff meetings
  • Following the school mission and instilling the beliefs in our students
  • Helping students gain critical, creative, and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding and using a variety of data and data sources for planning
  • Fair and accurate grade reporting
  • Managing classroom culture and student behavior
  • Utilizing data analysis and data-driven decision-making protocols for lesson planning and delivery as for student support
  • Supporting and participating in school-wide activities
  • Ensuring the classroom is attractive, safe, and conducive for learning
  • Effectively communicating with parents and caregivers
  • Commitment to Responsive Classroom philosophies and creating a culturally competent community of learners
  • Commitment to principles of blended learning, inquiry-based learning, and project-based learning
  • Maintaining positive rapport with students and members of the school community

Key Result Area #1 Instruction

This task is completed when:

  1. Integrated, thematic lessons are provided congruent with the Common Core State Standards.
  2. The teacher utilizes a variety of instructional methodologies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  3. Lesson plans are developed and implemented to daily address the students' learning deficits.
  4. The current curriculum is expanded and adapted to meet students' needs.
  5. Classroom management meets the needs of the student and the group.
  6. The teacher participates in ongoing supervision.
  7. Utilize technology to support instruction.

Key Result Area #2 Teamwork

This task is completed when:

  1. Team member (teacher, Teaching assistant, clinician, classroom assistants, and one to ones) roles are clearly delineated and effectively carried out.
  2. External support for unique student situations is sought.
  3. The team embraces the holistic delivery of services.
  4. Effective communication with other team members is carried out through active listening and reflection.
  5. Team members are responsible for holding one another accountable by making the covert overt to be effective with the students.
  6. Parent and/or significant others are involved as a partner in the student's educational program.

Key Result Area #3 Leadership

This task is completed when:

  1. Provide inspiration and direction to the Children's Guild.
  2. Model best practices.
  3. Accountable to outcome measures.
  4. Collegial approach to teaching is practiced.
  5. Serve as a guide and mentor to students and peers.

Key Result Area #4 Documentation:

This task is completed when:

  1. Documentation related to regulatory, licensing, and funding bodies is completed thoroughly and promptly.
  2. Agency-related documentation, such as student attendance, team meeting minutes, progress summaries, IEPs, report cards, behavior observations, high risk, and abuse reports, correspondence, crisis intervention, functional behavioral assessment, portfolio management, skill streaming, and behavior intervention plans is completed in a thorough and timely manner.
  3. Computer competencies for documentation and communication.

Key Result Area # 5 Professional Development:

This task is successfully completed when:

  1. Participate in campus in-service training and agency in-service training.
  2. Certification and continuing education requirements are met.

Key Result Area #6 Additional Expectations:

This task is successfully completed when:

A. Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Children's Guild.

  1. Successful completion of the Pre-service Training Program
  2. Successful completion and demonstrated competency with the prescribed behavior management program.
  3. Minimum expectations are achieved with
    1. Regular attendance adhering to work schedule
    2. Participate on committees as needed, attend meetings during school hours and evenings as scheduled.

B. Mandatory reading on relevant topics as assigned.

Key Result Area #8 Workplace Conditions:

This task is successfully completed when:

  1. Work Basis: Forty-five hour work week minimum ten months a year.
  2. Evening meeting and home visits as requested.

All Guild employees are expected to demonstrate an awareness of, respect for, and attention to the diversity of the people with whom they interact (person served, personnel, families/caregivers, and other stakeholders) that are reflected in attitudes, organizational structure, policies, and services.


The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited college or institution and have appropriate licensures. Two to four years of experience or training or an equivalent combination of education/experience is recommended. A state teaching certificate with reciprocity to the District of Columbia is required to be eligible.

Skills Required:

Candidates should be well versed in standards instruction, classroom management, student engagement, communication, and lesson planning.
