Basic FunctionThe Assistant Director of Special Education supports Administration in the implementation of Special Education and Intervention Services. This position works directly under the supervision of the Director of Special Services and acts as a direct liaison between the K-6 special education staff and students and the Director of Special Services. Performance Responsibilities
Coordinate/administration of K-6 special education services
Ensure compliance with IDEA and the Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities, with an emphasis on
Timelines specific to evaluations, IEPs, are met
Progress reports are completed in accordance with the District report card periods
Child Find activities and announcements are properly communicated on an annual basis
Manifestation Determination Reviews are complete in accordance with the federal and state laws
The IEP sequential process is strictly followed
Parent invitations, attempts to communicate and involve are clearly documented and distributed
All members of the IEP team are present for state and federal required meetings
Prior Written Notice compliance is monitored and coached as needed
Facilitate conflict resolution when needed
Collaborate with outside districts and providers to ensure compliance and participation in MFE and IEP meetings
Collaborate with building administration in the evaluation of Intervention Specialists and related service providers.
Provide leadership and coaching through a more inclusive instruction model for students with disabilities grades K-6.
Provide leadership and coaching to specialist education staff.
Provide support to K-6 principals specific to IDEA regulations
Attend training and ensure special education staff are familiar with updates to the regulations.
Ensure all public notices are properly placed on district website
Serve as district rep for students placed outside of the District (e.g. Pioneer School, RCCA, Bishop Flaget, New Story, etc.)
Provides support to the director of special education to complete and monitor district corrective action plans
Facilitate professional development for K-6 staff to ensure the provision of specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, etc.
Ensure all SWD have progress reports completed and on file per the district report card calendar.
Serve in a leadership role with the district Internal Monitoring team
Provide leadership, professional development and coaching to staff for the FBA/BIP process and implementation.
Collaborate with building administration in the transition of students from pre-K to Kindergarten, 2nd grade to 3rd grade, and 6th grade to 7th grade.
Collaborate with the District administration, and Director of Special Education to ensure that all board policies and state/federal regulations set forth under IDEA are properly enforced.
Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to align instructional practices/supports for SWD to the district curriculum.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education/Supt.
