ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2022, our core programs and emergency services reached 200,000 people living in all five boroughs and all 51 city council districts. In the summer of 2022, CPC was recognized as the number one Chinese American organization in New York City to recommend to a Chinese immigrant looking for in-language and culturally competent resources according to a recent survey. PROGRAM SUMMARY

Asian Family Services (AFS) provides child welfare preventive services to help keep children and their families together and avoid the placement of children in foster care. AFS addresses the multi-level needs of Asian-American families, especially recent Chinese immigrants by providing support, advocacy, and referral to services and case management to, but not limited to, Asian American families throughout the five boroughs. Our professional staff consists of bi- and tri-lingual and bi-cultural caseworkers.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Supervisor and Program Director, the full-time Case Aide support the administrative aspect of the AFS program, including, but not limited to maintaining case files, preparing regular and ad hoc reports, preparing materials for community education, presentations, workshops, and social activities. The Case Aide may also help with translation and escorting in providing direct services to the community members.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Supervisor and Caseworkers in managing case files, compiling monthly progress reports, and other statistical reports as required by the funding source.
  • Provide assistance with Family Team Conferences as needed.
  • Support Caseworkers in organizing workshops, community presentations and social activities.
  • Help Caseworkers identify community sources; and act as a backup for Caseworkers in providing direct concrete services, i.e. translation and escorting.
  • Compile educational and outreach materials for the purpose of parenting education.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and Program Director.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum associate degree in human services, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in education, community outreach and family work a plus.
  • Child welfare experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with the NYC entitlement system a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent written, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to cooperatively work with a diverse staff.
  • Must be bilingual and bicultural either in English and Chinese, Korean, or Spanish.
  • Ability to work under pressure and set up good rapport with immigrant families and children.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle numerous complex tasks.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

  • $19.24 - $21.98 per hour; 35 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekends
