Position: Talent Experience Manager (TxM)/Human Resource Manager

Sault Tribe, Inc. (STI), began work in 2020, created by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians as the independent business arm of the Tribe. Our mission is to enhance the economy and improve the quality of life for the members of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. STI will achieve this mission through growing our business, particularly in Federal contracting through our STI Federal brand.

STI is looking for a Talent Experience Manager (TxM) with an expected hire date of June – August 2024.

Job Description

Purpose: The Talent Experience Manager (TxM) will further STI’s mission by creating a top-notch employee experience from recruiting throughout employment. As an early stage hire in a growing business, the TxM will initially be a department of one, encompassing all functions of traditional human resources (HR), performance management, benefits, compensation, etc., as well as training and development, recruiting, culture, employee engagement, and all things talent experience. The TxM will report to and partner with STI’s CEO to make STI an employer of choice in the federal government contracting market.

Key Outcomes:

  • Comprehensive benefits. Offer our employees the best benefits we can within budget and manage benefit costs. Oversee benefits programs, including professional development and training, and traditional health benefits, and make continuous improvements.
  • Curate Culture. Shape employee culture around core values leading toward consistent demonstration of employees exemplifying core values noted through peer recognition, performance evaluation, and client feedback.
  • Employee Experience. Build a positive employee experience from recruiting throughout employment measured through employee retention, surveys, and other feedback.
  • Performance Management. Go beyond the annual performance evaluation to build and train staff on a comprehensive feedback and performance management system based on best available research fostering continuous improvement for personnel and the company.
  • Recruiting and onboarding. Recruit and support recruiting efforts to bring on candidates within 30 days that will be successful in their roles through development of job scorecard, structured interview practices, conducting candidate screenings and/or interviews.
  • Systems, policies, and procedures. Improve and implement our HRIS system and compliant policies and procedures, and training that are best practice for the organization and our staff.

Required Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Must have demonstrated experience supporting each of the key outcomes in past roles.
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience providing HR support for a federal contractor.
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience at mid to senior level in talent experience/human resources required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field preferred.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.
  • Experience with SCLS and/or David Bacon Act requirements a plus.

Supervisor Responsibilities: The TxM could have the ability to develop a team and increase their level of responsibility depending on company growth and their performance.

Working Conditions: Confidentiality Required. General office or remote work environment. Position requires mobility and prolonged sitting and standing; requires flexible working hours. Travel could be required up to 25%.

Compensation: $105,000 – $130,000 salary is available for the right candidate.

Work Location: Remote with hiring preference for Sault Saint Marie, Michigan; Denver, Colorado Metro Area; Atlanta, GA Metro Area; or Washington, DC Metro Area.

Native American Preferred – Sault Tribe Member/Family preferred.
