CHLOETA is Hiring a Landscape Architect Near Santa Fe, NM

Job Summary

The Landscape Architect is part of an inter-disciplinary team of scientific professionals and will supports the restoration of landscapes affected by wildfires in the Southwest Region, ensuring environmental sustainability, and enhancing community resilience. Successful candidates must possess extensive experience in natural resources related landscape management, including campgrounds, trails and roads in public areas.

Job Classification: 1099 Independent Subcontractor

Duty Station: Virtual 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements landscape restoration plans in areas impacted by wildfires.
  • Creates detailed designs that incorporate native vegetation, erosion control, and sustainable land use practices.
  • Coordinates with GIS staff for mapping and other landscape modeling tools to assess site conditions and plan interventions.
  • Environmental Compliance:
    • Ensures all landscape restoration activities comply with NEPA and other relevant environmental regulations.
    • Prepares environmental impact reports and collaborates with regulatory agencies.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Works closely with interdisciplinary teams, including ecologists, hydrologists, and foresters, to develop integrated recovery strategies.
    • Engages with community stakeholders to understand their needs and incorporate their input into the project plans.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Familiarity with GIS, AutoCAD, and other relevant software.
  • Excellent design and visualization skills.
  • Knowledge of native plant species and ecological restoration techniques.
  • Understanding of soil properties and effective erosion control methods to stabilize fire-damaged landscapes.
  • Knowledge of watershed management and the ability to design solutions to manage runoff and reduce flooding risk in post-fire landscapes.
  • Ability to analyze environmental data and interpret findings to inform landscape design and restoration strategies.
  • Skills in assessing and mitigating risks associated with landscape recovery, including potential environmental hazards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
  • Required: Minimum of 5 years of experience in landscape architecture, with a focus on environmental restoration and post-disaster recovery.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in landscape architecture, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
  • Preferred: The following certification is desirable- Professional Landscape Architect (PLA), LEED certification
