Job SummaryReporting to the Pathology Supervisor, the Pathology Laboratory technician is responsible for obtaining and processing pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification. Assists Pathologists, Pathology Assistants, Histotechnologist/technicians and Cytotechnologist with specimen preparation during routine processing and intraoperative consultations. Maintains a clean and safe work environment to ensure efficient workflow and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Communicates clearly and professionally with nurses, OR staff, Doctors, co-workers, and other personnel to obtain information for laboratory records, procedures, material requests, and other inquiries. May assist Pathologist/PA with opening, evisceration, and closing during autopsy procedures with appropriate competency training and within established parameters.
Pay RangeMinimum $25.00 Midpoint $26.00 Maximum $26.00
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.QualificationsRequired:
  • One year Pathology Lab experience;
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of college science courses (Associate in Science degree) or two years of relevant work experience in the laboratory.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, detail oriented, excellent customer service skills, and ability to remain focused in stressful situations.
  • Be flexible, demonstrate teamwork, initiative, and willingness to learn.
  • Must have strong mental and visual concentration.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on communication
Preferred
  • Two years of Pathology lab experience.
Work Environments - Functional DemandMedium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull /- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .
