Job SummaryThe Ophthalmic Assistant performs basic ophthalmic patient work. Enters data in the electronic medical records and updates patient demographics. Collects patient information and performs basic age-appropriate eye exams, basic ocular measurements, and pupil reaction. Prepares eye exam lanes before and in between patient care.
Pay RangeMinimum $22.63 Midpoint $29.99 Maximum $37.34
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.This position is Part Time, non-benefited and is located in Mission Viejo, CA.
Experience
  • Required: Minimum two (1) year of experience in an Ophthalmology/Optometry office.
  • Preferred: Pediatric clinical experience.
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
Training
  • Required: N/A
Specialized Skills
  • Required: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position; Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision.
Licensure
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS), Must obtain Certified Ophthalmology Assistant within one (1) year of CHOC onboarding
  • Preferred: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
Work Environments - Functional DemandMedium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull /- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .
