Special Education Teacher JOB DESCRIPTION: La Academia’s Special Education Teacher will work with students to foster their development in English Language Arts and Social Studies. They will create a supportive learning environment which will help students meet their learning goals. Through interesting and diverse methodology, students will learn and apply important rules of reading, writing, and speaking in English. The English Immersion Teacher will model and engage in La Academia’s equity minded practices and other mission aligned values.
REPORTS TO: Deans of Curriculum & Instruction
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver a standards based curricula in English Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Create instructional resources for use in the classroom as needed
  • Help students meet growth/proficiency goals
  • Deliver instruction effectively by making phonics explicit and bringing foundational skills to the forefront of instruction
  • Differentiate instruction effectively to meet the needs of all students (English Learners, Students with Disabilities, as well as Students who are Below and Above grade level)
  • Drive outstanding student achievement and engaged learning through creative lesson plans and organized classroom procedures
  • Implement and progress monitor intervention, Response to Intervention (RTI)
  • Design opportunities that foster the development of language acquisition in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening as well as academic vocabulary
  • Develop creative, rigorous lesson plans following the grade level scope/sequence and pacing guides
  • Through formative and summative assessments, evaluate all students regularly and communicate with families of student progress
  • Provide continual assessments and accurate tracking of student progress, maintains student work records, and completes assigned paperwork in provided time frames
  • Conduct both student and teacher lead parent conferences
  • Participate in professional growth activates, collaborative groups and Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
  • Build strong, positive relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse community of students and their families as well as colleagues
  • Complete all required training, goal setting, and other areas of compliance related to professional evaluations
  • Prepare lesson plans, seating charts, and classroom procedures for substitute teachers
  • Utilize school required platforms as required to perform duties
  • Perform other classroom responsibilities and all other duties as assigned and/or stated in our Employee Handbook

Qualifications
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Delaware Teaching License and Certification in Special Education in accordance with 14 Del. C.
  • 1571
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience at the elementary school level with bachelor’s degree in Elementary or Middle School Education with a certification in Special Education or a bachelor’s degree in Special Education
  • Additional qualifications and/or alternatives as deemed necessary by the Board of Education and School Administration
  • Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday
  • Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance)
  • Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday

SALARY & BENEFITS: This is a Full-Time, 10-Month position. Salary range are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Health, Dental and Vision benefits are included if full-time. Bottom of Form
