QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education
  • Hold or be Eligible for State of DE Certification (Elementary Education preferred)
  • 2 years of successful experience teaching K-12 or adult learners
  • Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated competency in classroom teaching
  • Proficient in the use of technology; specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite
  • Successful completion of the State of Delaware Pre-Professional Skills Test prior to employment
Salary: Commensurate with appropriate schedule

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Position Description: Applicants for the Instructor position within the Adult Education program must prepare parenting lessons for adult students on how to be the primary literacy teacher for their children and full partners in the education of their children and child development classes that provides age-appropriate education to prepare children for success in school and life experiences. All candidates should be proficient with technology and have the ability to integrate into teaching. Position also entails working with students to gain employment and career pathways information and leading other staff. The applicant must be willing and able to work non-traditional hours in schools and/or community settings.

Responsibilities: The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position. Responsibilities may include any or all of the following:
  • Prepares instruction and activities using the program's curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors.
  • Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Prepare monthly themed family activity packets that focus on literacy skills.
  • Instruct students individually and/or in groups using various teaching methods, and the Delaware Parents as Teachers curricula as well supplementary materials.
  • Knowledge and use of techniques appropriate for adult learners.
  • Administer Pre- Post-assessment to students and interpret results to students in order to establish short and long-term goals.
  • Use data to monitor and manage student learning and performance.
  • Complete Weekly/Monthly data collection and reports.
  • Attend staff meetings and state and local sponsored professional development activities periodically.
  • Refer adult learners with challenging life issues to appropriate resources.
  • Work with adult students in employment facilitation and career pathways.
  • Contact students with excessive absences
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with program's policies and practices.
