SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Controller oversees day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and auditing functions. This position ensures that reports comply with the company regulations, professional standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) reporting guidelines. The Controller supports finance teams at multiple entities with diverse operations to provide financial leadership. Coordinates financial reporting, financial policy compliance, and internal control structure with parent company, Chugach Alaska Corporation (CAC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs, coordinates, compiles and analyzes CCH’s financial information to prepare financial statements and other reports in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
  • Responsible for financial reporting compliance, internal controls, cash management, asset management and accounting procedures in coordination with CAC.
  • Enhances, develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of CCH.
  • Prepares the CCH holding company budget and coordinates completion of budgets for individual subsidiaries.
  • Monitors performance against budget to analyze and explain budget to actual variances.
  • Recommends best practices in financial management to reduce operating costs, streamline processes and/or increase revenues.
  • Serves as primary liaison to Chugach Alaska Corporation related to the external audit function.
  • Oversees the daily operations of CCH accounting department, to ensure design of organizational structure is adequate to achieve company goals.
  • Provides accounting support to operating company finance teams as questions arise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in finance or accounting.
  • Three (3) years experience in a supervisory/management position.

Knowledge Of:

  • Knowledge of general accounting/GAAP, budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting and related accounting and record keeping
  • Knowledge of consolidating entries and reporting.
  • Knowledge and experience with audit coordination, financial controls and

Accountable for:

  • Demonstrating advanced skills related to the multi-level consolidation and reporting of financial results and development and implementation of accounting procedures.
  • Timely monthly/annual financial close and reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Accuracy of general ledger balances, timely payment of accounts payable, timely payment and filing of tax items, accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Annual budget process and variance reporting and communicating issues to management.
  • Providing financial analyses as needed, particularly for cash needs, capital investment, and contract changes/negotiations.
  • Coordinating multiple projects and competing demands at one time, some high-level and some requiring attention to
  • Providing leadership to effect change and incorporate new approaches to meet broad company
  • Working with a team at varying levels of financial acumen to educate, contribute and further mature CCH financial operations.

Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA)
  • Master's degree in business, finance or related field from an accredited university
  • Experience with Sage Intacct financial systems.
  • Experience working in an Alaska Native Corporation environment
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (Bl)
