Job OverviewThe incumbent provides assessment and counseling in a variety of education programs to include Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), educational financial aid other than military tuition assistance referral; military tuition assistance to include but not limited to assessing course/degree compliance, personal education advisement, education planning and programs, AF commissioning programs, civilian degree programs, academic and professional testing programs/opportunities.

Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Provide accurate information about available educational and career development opportunities to include up-to-date and referral information on any applicable grant, scholarship, tuition assistance for which an applicant may qualify.
  • Counsels Airmen regarding requirements for unique AF educational opportunities such as AF Institute of Technology graduate and education with industry programs, Officer, and Enlisted professional military education to include particular emphasis with the NCO and SNCO Academy Multimedia Correspondence courses and the Academic Deferment Program.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for college accreditation, transfer credit, College Level Examination Program (CLEP)/Defense Subject Standardization Test (DSST) test interpretations, college fees, course delivery, on/off-base/on-line post-secondary education programs, evaluating/approving degree plans, MilTA policy and procedures, and Pell Grants/other funding sources, course enrollment changes.
  • Serves as lead counselor/subject matter expert for enlisted-to-officer commissioning programs such as: United States AF (USAF) Academy, AF Academy Preparatory School, Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development Program, AF Reserve Officer Training Corps’ (ROTC) (Airman Scholarship and Commissioning Program, Scholarship for Outstanding Airmen, and Professional Officer Course-Early Release Program), Basic Officer Training, Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program, and various enlisted medical commissioning programs.
  • Evaluate clients’ potential and eligibility for the programs, outlines a curriculum of study, and/or advises them on the application process. and admission.
  • Counsel Airmen on the CCAF program, evaluate progress and recommend courses or CLEP/DSST examinations to complete their CCAF degree.
  • Review CCAF Advanced Standing rosters and counsels Airmen on areas needed to complete their CCAF degree.
  • Provides mass briefings, monitors progress of individuals participating in educational and career enhancement programs and modifies career goals as appropriate.
  • Prepares/conducts strategic mass-briefings to include First Term Airmen’s Center (FTAC) and educational briefings, upon requests, for groups or units to promote educational programs and prepare Airmen for post-service careers.
  • Prepares, distributes, and tabulates needs assessment instruments to determine the educational needs of the serviced population.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job RequirementsMandatory:
  • Must be qualified under the Office of Personnel Management standards for the Education Services Series, 1740 career field, Education Services Series, 1740 and Individual Occupational Requirements Degree.
  • Bachelor’s Degree accredited by the US Department of Education that includes or was supplemented by at least twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of areas: counseling; tests and measurement; adult education; educational program administration; curriculum development or design; teaching methods, guidance and counseling; career planning; occupational information.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain government identification/common access card.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS).
