Cincinnati Nature Center is Hiring a NatureShop Associate Near Milford, OH

Cincinnati Nature Center is seeking applicants to fill multiple, part-time Nature Shop Associate positions at our Rowe Woods location in Milford, OH. The Nature Shop is located within the Rowe Visitor Center.

The Nature Shop is our retail shop which helps to deepen each customer’s connection to nature and inspire conservation. Through a positive and welcoming approach, Nature Shop associates help to extend and reinforce each customer’s experience and learning at the Nature Center.

Typical shop hours are 10am to 5pm. This part-time position will work 24 hours or less/ week with a focus on weekends and evenings, especially during the Holiday season.

Purpose

This is a part-time position focused on providing a superior retail experience to all members and guests. Under direction from the Nature Shop Manager, this person will work in a collaborative manner to execute all activities with the highest standards for customer service and in keeping with Nature Center Mission, Values, and Principles.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Customer Service (100%)

Provide exceptional customer service to members and guests by greeting each person and assisting them appropriately
Know the merchandise provided by the Nature Shop
Utilize point-of-sale (POS) system to process cash and credit card payments and to maintain accurate merchandise inventory
Open and close POS register and prepare daily balancing sheets
Receive shipments of merchandise; log and display merchandise
Move and organize merchandise as needed between the storage room and Nature Shop displays
Keep shop tidy and neat
Work in the Nature Shop and occasionally in other locations at Rowe Woods
Assist with art shows by helping with set up and break down
Support a positive experience for the Nature Center volunteers working in the Nature Shop and give direction as needed

Additional Job Responsibilities

SPECIAL EVENTS: Provide support for art shows and special community/fundraising events as needed. These events may fall after hours or on weekends.
Assist with inventory as needed
Attend regularly scheduled shop training sessions and periodic meetings
Become familiar with Nature Center programming and events so can respond to questions from guests and promote Nature Center activities as appropriate.

Education and Competencies:

High school diploma or equivalent
Strong customer service skills
Point of Sale / cash register experience

Communication:

Excellent communication skills, including oral, written and especially listening skills
Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information

Qualifications:

An interest in nature

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products
Ability to utilize POS software and electronic POS cash registers

Work Environment:

The work is performed on-site, indoors in a retail shop environment and may also be performed outdoors in the Nature Center.
Local travel may be required. Some travel to regional conferences may be required. When a Nature Center vehicle is not available, the use of personal vehicle (reimbursed at IRS recommended rate) may be needed for Cincinnati Nature Center business.
