Motivate, develop, and train young men to play baseball and supervise student-athletes, academically and athletically.
Be knowledgeable of practice planning with drills that will instruct both beginners and advanced players as well as instruct fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Guild student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.
Work cooperatively, and in a timely matter, with the School Athletic and the District Athletic Department in regard to requests for information (i.e., Rosters, Physical Forms, Parent Permission Forms, Emergency Medical Forms, Preseason/Postseason Reports, etc., and any other additional information that might be required periodically.
Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education relative to required coaching certificates and Pupils Activity Permit. Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA)
Check student-athletes academic eligibility.
Model the behavior expected of student-athletes including timeliness to practices; being positive and enthusiastic in practices; respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the discipline of the program. Set a positive example at all times while with student-athletes. Has respect through his/her example in appearance, behavior, language and conduct at all times and is appropriately dressed at all practices and games.
Maintain a suitable sideline conduct including the use of appropriate language at all games with respect to student-athletes, officials, parents, and fans, etc..
Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use of good judgment in decision-making.
Schedule pre-season practices on the first day permitted for that sport by the OHSAA.
Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
Participate in School Events (i.e., Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.).
Demonstrate the ability to adapt properly to changing game situations.
Be well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport as well as look at ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
Is innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
Ensure that team is well-prepared for opponent(s).
Provide motivation for team to meet/exceed their goals and stress the value of acceptable personal behavior by each student-athlete.
Actively promote good sportsmanship at all times.
Follow School's Athletic Department Policy as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in job description.
Maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies.
