Database Systems Developer/ Modeler

Overview:
The State of New Jersey is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Systems Developer to join our team in Trenton, NJ. This hybrid position involves designing, developing, and maintaining efficient, scalable, and secure database systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database architecture, data integration, and security.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Design and Development:

   • Design and develop efficient, scalable, and secure database systems.
   • Determine appropriate database architecture, data storage, and indexing techniques.
   • Build new relational data models, tables, views, functions, grants, triggers, stored procedures, and indexes.

2. Collaboration and Performance:

   • Work closely with software developers and system administrators to ensure databases meet performance and scalability requirements.
   • Analyze organizational data needs, identify the most appropriate database systems, design and implement database structures, and ensure data security and integrity.

3. Data Integration and Architecture:

   • Experience in back-end data integration and architecture, including dimensional data modeling (partitioning), database design, data warehousing, ETL development, and performance tuning.
   • Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI Stack for reporting.

4. Database Migration and High Availability:

   • Experience in database migration projects (Oracle to SQL).
   • Design and maintain High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.

5. Deployment and Maintenance:

   • Design database deployment strategies and manage database maintenance across environments.

6. Windows Server and Active Directory:

   • Experience with Windows Server, including Active Directory.
   • Manage users and user access strategies integrated with applications.

7. Data Warehousing:

   • Focus on designing and maintaining data warehouses with large-scale repositories for analysis and reporting.
   • Collaborate with data analysts and business intelligence professionals to design data models and create efficient queries.

8. Cloud Data Management

   • Experience in designing and implementing solutions for managing data in the cloud.
   • Working knowledge of AWS RDS.

9. Data Security and Integrity

   • Ensure data security and protection from unauthorized access or modification.
   • Implement security protocols such as encryption, access controls, and data backup and recovery procedures.
   • Maintain data accuracy, consistency, and currency through data quality and validation rules.

10. Automation and Documentation

    • Automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in database design, development, and maintenance.
• Strong hands-on experience with relational data models, tables, views, functions, grants, triggers, stored procedures, and indexes.
• Proficiency in back-end data integration, database design, data warehousing, ETL development, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI Stack for reporting.
• Experience with database migration (Oracle to SQL) and designing HA/DR solutions for SQL Server.
• Knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory management.
• Experience with AWS RDS and cloud data management solutions (preferred).
• Strong understanding of data security protocols and practices.
