Job Summary/Description:
Summary: The main function of a design engineer is to apply the principles of mechanical engineering to the design, development, testing, and validation of engine installation components. A typical design engineer understands all functional requirements for a new design and understands root cause of an failing existing design to provide validated solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
Design engine installation components to satisfy all cross functional requirements and collaborate with component suppliers to optimize for cost, quality and manufacturability. Collaborate with test and validation team to establish necessary activities to deliver fully validated designs. Manage project list to ensure all deadlines are met. Ensure validated root causes are identified for any failed components as well as developing fully validated solutions.
Skills:
Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time. Strong problem-solving skills including root cause identification and development of fully validated solutions. Strong supplier collaboration skills to ensure designs are optimized for cost, quality and manufacturability. Strong collaboration skills within cross functional engineering and manufacturing engineering team.
Education Requirement:
-Bachelor's degree in engineering required. - Mechanical engineering degree preferred, but willing to review other engineering degrees. -Eight to ten years of engineering experience required.
Critical Technical Skills:
Required: some kind of 3D modeling such as, Proficient in Creo/Pro-E, Desired: general understanding of machinery and construction equipment, general understanding of engines and engine installation, and validation and instrumented testing methods.
