What is this role? 

In the role as a Controls Engineer you with learn and develop proficiency in multiple programming software used in controls engineering, including but not limited to PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) development SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and industrial networking protocols. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production logistics, accounting, supply chain, automation engineering, and IT, to gather requirements and implement control system solutions that meet business needs. You will drive the design, development, testing, and implementation of control strategies and automation systems. You will take ownership of troubleshooting and resolving electrical and control system issues, ensuring minimal disruption to production and operational processes. You will develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of control system specifications, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides. You will stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in control system technologies, and propose innovative ideas for continuous improvement within the controls engineering department. You will actively engage in knowledge sharing and collaborate with other controls engineers and technicians to enhance overall team performance. You will expand your technical expertise beyond Electrical Controls Engineering to include mechanical systems and machine vision technologies. You will lead the integration of mechanical components and vision systems into automated solutions ensuring comprehensive and effective performance of the overall system.

What does an average day look like? 

Driving Results: 

  • You will drive the design, development, testing, and implementation of control strategies and automation systems. Taking Ownership: You will take ownership of troubleshooting and resolving electrical and control system issues, ensuring minimal disruption to production and operational processes. 
  • You will lead the integration of mechanical components and vision systems into automated solutions ensuring comprehensive and effective performance of the overall system.
  • You will develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of control system specifications, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • You will stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in control system technologies, and propose innovative ideas for continuous improvement within the controls engineering department.

Making Decisions:.

  • You will lead the integration of mechanical components and vision systems into automated solutions ensuring comprehensive and effective performance of the overall system.Cultivating Relationships:You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production logistics, accounting, supply chain, automation engineering, and IT, to gather requirements and implement control system solutions that meet business needs. 
  • You will actively engage in knowledge sharing and collaborate with other controls engineers and technicians to enhance overall team performance.

Instilling Trust: You will hit deadlines and manage progress of your project to ensure an on-time delivery.

Customer Focus: Show strong desire to learn and grow. Provide suggestions to management for improving processes.

What background should you have? 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, or a related field; or an Associate’s degree in a relevant discipline with equivalent professional experience
  • 2 years’ of work experience within the manufacturing field
  • Strong passion for controls engineering and a desire to build a career in this field
  • Solid understanding of basic electrical and control system principles
  • Familiarity with programming languages and software used in controls engineering, such as ladder logic, structured text, C/C , Java, Python, AutoCAD
  • Ability to take high level direction and turn into executable tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and provide effective solutions
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • Willing to work hard, stay until the job is complete, and demonstrate resilience
  • Have a positive attitude, willing to work with multiple levels of employees, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior experience or internships in controls engineering or automation-related roles is a plus
