Night 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM.
Day 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM.

Summary: The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing a designated group of nursing employees on a nursing unit and ensures smooth operations of the unit for a designated shift.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
· Acts as a nursing manager and is accountable for activities performed by nursing staff on a designated shift. Provides supervision to a designated group of employees.
· Coordinates and participates in admissions, transfers and discharges.
· Accepts and communicates shift report.
· Makes frequent rounds on unit. Identifies clinical and operational problems and communicates to Unit Manager/Shift Supervisor.
· Ensures appropriate staffing levels on unit. Recommends staffing patterns and needs to Nursing Clinical Manager/Shift Supervisor.
· Evaluates resident’s status and reports changes to the physician and ADON.
· Evaluates appropriateness of care activities. Identifies the need for and recommends special care activities and programs.
· Checks for appropriate amount and condition of equipment and supplies. Recommends equipment and supply needs to Nursing Clinical Manager/Shift Supervisor.
· Evaluates environmental conditions, identifies problems and initiates requests for correction.
· Plans and delegates assignments to nursing staff.
· Oversees direct care activities to ensure that practices are consistent with regulatory requirements and facility policies and procedures.
· Provides direct care as needed. Obtains assistance for clinical emergencies and assists as necessary, including CPR.
· Counts narcotics and administers medications as required.
· Ensures that physician’s orders are current and appropriate, and communicates these orders to unit nursing personnel.
· Participates in the resident assessment and care planning activities. Reviews and makes revisions as necessary, and ensures compliance with regulatory and other standards. Communicates assessment and care plan with staff, residents and families.
· Participates in department orientation program for new employees.
· Provides feedback to staff regarding their performance. Maintains accurate records pertaining to performance. Counsels, educates and coaches employees to maintain and improve competencies and work habits. Communicates feedback with Nursing Clinical Manager/Shift Supervisor.
· Supports and participates in Quality Assurance programs; falling star, weight, skin, etc.
· Documents and investigates incidents and accidents.
· Ensures problems and complaints involving nursing services are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.
· Ensures resident and guests rights are protected and ensures they are free from abuse and neglect.
· Adheres to and ensures that staff adheres to infection control practices.
· Attends In-Service training to maintain and improve competencies.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Current Maryland RN license. At least six months of nursing experience, preferably in long term care.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Promotes positive image of long-term care nursing and our facility to residents, guests, families and the community.
· Maintains and promotes positive working relationships and communication between nursing staff and other departments.
· Protects the privacy of residents, guests and employees.
· Practices professional nursing codes of ethics.
· Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, and a professional demeanor.
· Projects good judgment and performs all duties satisfactorily while prioritizing projects as assigned.
· Exhibits excellent customer service skills and attention to detail.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, push, pull, balance, reach, grasp, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Rate of Pay:
Staff Nurse base rate is $32.79 to $40.16/hr. Base Pay rate is based on years of experience with current license.
Night Shift: Base Rate 6% Shift Differential
Day/Evening Shift: Base Rate 6% Shift Differential $0.50/hr Premium
