Summary

The mission of CWC Kansas City is to provide an excellent public education focused on developing and demonstrating understanding while building connections within a diverse community.

Responsibilities

The Guidance Counselor is responsible for implementing the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Program which focuses on four key components: implementing guidance curriculum, providing individual planning, offering responsive services, and providing system support.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Support the learning community in all aspects of school leadership for the purpose of enabling staff and students to attain goals, and advance the mission and programs of Citizens of the World Kansas City.
  • Create an inclusive, positive, and equitable school community, leveraging the CWC Kansas City Values, Norms, and Core Values
  • Foster positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Communicate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of relaying information and solving problems.
  • Collaborate and consult with teachers, administrators, and other staff in the building to provide/receive information and/or making recommendations regarding students’ personal/social development, academic success, or college/career readiness and goal setting.
  • Coordinate the Missouri Grade Level Assessments and appropriate End of Course exams in collaboration with building and regional administration adhering to all ethical and standardized administration guidelines.
  • Develop and implement a variety of special programs for the purpose of providing relevant information, data, and/or research regarding students’ personal/social development, academic success, or college/career readiness and goal setting.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the school guidance program and revises the program to ensure compatibility and alignment with state and building goals.
  • Guide and counsel students and groups for the purpose of meeting developmental, educational, and guidance needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school community.
  • Serves as liaison between home, school, and appropriate community to coordinate efforts that meet students’ students’ personal/social development, academic success, or college/career readiness and goal setting.

Qualifications & Traits

The ideal Guidance Counselor will have/hold:

  • Master’s Degree in an approved program for guidance counseling, social work, counseling or closely related mental health discipline.
  • Ideal counselor candidate has a master’s degree or higher degree in education, school counseling, counseling, or a related field. Missouri Certification in School Counseling or Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Valid Missouri teacher and principal certification
  • A minimum of 5 years classroom experience
  • A clear record of elevating student achievement in an academically high-achieving classroom for at least two years, with a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results, and exceptional leadership working with young people in urban communities
  • Experience working in a mixed socio-economic school preferred
  • Alignment with the philosophy and mission of the school and organization
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and be capable of managing many complex tasks with competing priorities
  • Possess strong leadership, team management, and community building skills
  • Be organized and self-managed, and be able to handle many responsibilities
  • simultaneously
  • Have excellent problem-solving skills
  • Be committed to building a community of collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Be a self-aware leader who knows how to treat all members of the school’s community with respect, appraises accurately his or her strengths and weaknesses, and is perceptive about how he or she is regarded

  • Maintain strong personal commitment to ongoing learning and growth
  • Be an effective and persuasive communicator, orally and in writing

Compensation & Benefits

This role is placed on the “P: Professional,” salary schedule, regardless of degree held.

Compensation and Benefits

We value our team, and one way that we show that is through compensation and benefits. For certified teaching positions, we offer competitive compensation with a starting salary of $47,000-70,000 (based on experience and education). We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including:
