The dedicated staff at Denver Human Services (DHS) are here to listen and advise, helping people apply for public assistance programs. We can provide information about food assistance and financial assistance, as well as help for veterans and those who need long term care. DHS provides a range of other services, including help with transitional housing, medical assistance, and heating costs.
This posting is for multiple positions. Those selected must be active Colorado Works (TANF) Participants in Denver County and will be participating in a work-based learning experience.
Applicants for this posting will participate in a subsidized employment activity for up to 6 months. The goal of subsidized employment is to offer a model of employment by which participants learn through experience the customs and routines of work, acquire work-task skills, establish an employment record, and generate employer references to enhance their competitiveness. Customers will be provided with collaborative case management including their Colorado Works Case Manager and Employment Supervisor to facilitate skill building opportunities and provide comprehensive support while in a subsidized employment role. Customers may be placed in various roles within Denver Human Services.
General duties may include:
  • Provide clerical support and assistance to the Agency and provide customer service over the telephone and in person with internal and external customers
  • Routine clerical duties, such as: data entry, paper document filing, electronic document filing, stuffing correspondence, delivering mail, tracking reports, monitoring requests, categorizing documents, organizing paper and electronic files, and arranging office supplies
  • Retrieve necessary information and enter data into several different computer programs and database systems
  • Provide Spanish/English interpretation if proficient in both languages
  • Ability to learn and apply new computer skills on a regular basis, and knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Routine clerical duties, such as: data entry, paper document filing, electronic document filing, stuffing correspondence, delivering mail, tracking reports, monitoring requests, categorizing documents, organizing paper and electronic files, and arranging office supplies
Administrative Support Assistant II (ASA II) duties may include:
  • Provide clerical support and assistance to the Agency and provide customer service over the telephone and in person with internal and external customers
  • Gain general knowledge to provide responses to customer questions at various customer facing DHS operations
  • Assist clients with copying documents in our self-service room
  • Complete accurate data entry of new applications for food, cash, and medical benefits
  • Retrieve, sort, date stamp, and distribute mail throughout the day
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

About You
Our ideal candidate for these positions would have the following skills and experience:
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Experience providing trauma-informed care and using a holistic approach to service delivery
  • Experience with and understanding of Motivational Interviewing, social work, and case management
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in both oral and written format
  • Comfortable with video and audio-conferencing systems including Microsoft Teams and data tracking systems
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Passion for and flexibility to work with diverse populations, neighborhoods, and partners throughout the Denver community
  • Training and experience with Mental Health First Aid
  • A high regard for empathy and compassion
