ABOUT THE LIBRARY

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. DPL sees more than 4 million visitors every year across its 27 locations, serves Denver’s most vulnerable communities through outreach and mobile services, hosts thousands of programs a year and manages a collection of more than 1.

4 million physical and digital materials. We occupy nearly 900,000 square feet of building space and are committed to adding two new library branches in the next few years.

ABOUT OUR TEAM

The Facilities Operations Department includes; Maintenance, Custodial Services, Supply Delivery and Grounds Services. The Facilities team is rapidly expanding to meet the needs of our community and internal customers.

Our team office is located at the Central Library in downtown Denver; however, the nature of work is system-wide and often requires on-site work and meetings at various DPL branch locations and other city offices.

ABOUT THE JOB

This is a new position and is a critical role in taking the Facilities department to the next level of operational excellence with the direction of the library’s Strategic Roadmap.

This position will report to the Manager of Facilities and will supervise supply, delivery and grounds services.

Specifically, this position will be responsible for :

Supervises working supervisors and other staff members involved in the Grounds Maintenance, Mailroom Supply and Delivery Department operations.

Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of staff members, provides technical expertise to staff, and establishes unit and staff work goals and objectives.

Conducts hiring interviews and selects candidate(s) for job opening(s).

Ensures quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of unit activities and safety measures.

Documents causes for disciplinary action, initiates letters of reprimand, and makes formal recommendations for disciplinary action.

Responds to formal and informal employee grievances and prepares written responses.

Evaluates, procures, inventories, and issues; supplies, tools, equipment, and materials, used by Facilities Operations Department and Branch Libraries.

Supports the Denver Environmental Performance Program (DEPP) program to achieve environmental performance goals, improve operations, and meet environmental protection obligations.

Ensures assets, FFE and materials are inventoried and moved as needed, and disposed of according to City surplus procedures when needed.

Supervises solid waste and recycling operations ensuring environmental requirements are adhered to and that sustainability standards are achieved.

Provides oversight of Facilities Operations fleet vehicles including; operation, inventory, maintenance and training.

Supervises library materials circulation to accommodate the needs of the system.

Supervises supply inventory and delivery operations providing branch supplies and maintenance parts as needed.

Supervises Grounds maintenance including; hardscape and softscape elements, creating and maintaining preventative and corrective maintenance plans.

Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage inventory, schedule work, and create and run reports.

Monitors agreements and contracts to ensure compliance with contract requirements, verifies that contractors have met contract goals and provided required reports and documentation, reviews and resolves differences in areas of non-performance, and addresses other concerns as necessary.

Implements and monitors snow removal operations.

Maintains and participates in after hours emergency response as needed including snow removal operations.

Performs the duties of the positions supervised as needed.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a team member who :

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction and building maintenance.

Knowledge of the hazards involved and the safety practices required for maintenance activities.

Knowledge of computerized facilities related management systems, including CMMS , financial systems and Microsoft and Google suite applications.

Skill working with snow removal equipment and snow removal practices

Ability to train, motivate and supervise staff.

Ability to do work in areas supervised.

Ability to work in an environment with people from all backgrounds and age groups.

Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Ability to work with a diverse group of people. Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with customers, staff and the community.

Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to use workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases and other software.

Coaching - Provides others with clear direction, motivates, and empowers. Recruits staff of a high caliber and provides staff with development opportunities and coaching.

Delivering Results - Sets high standards for quality, quantity, and timelines. Focuses on customer needs and satisfaction.

Consistently achieves project goals.

Ability to pass a physical examination and a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

A high school diploma or equivalency.

Five years of experience supervising facilities maintenance, supply room and grounds related work.

Prior supervisory experience (required).

Knowledge of procedures for training and operating forklift, and motor vehicles, including cars, trucks

Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment for self and others.

A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record required for employment.
