City College of San Francisco is Hiring a Librarian (Temporary, Part-time Pool) Near San Francisco, CA

The CCSF Library welcomes applications for motivated and equity-minded part-time faculty members to work as part of the library faculty. The librarians hired in this position will primarily provide reference (in-person, email, phone, and online chat reference) and teach information literacy sessions to CCSF students. The position may include a combination of day, evening and/or weekend assignments at all locations of CCSF Library. In addition to reference and instruction, the Librarian may also be assigned other duties and responsibilities.

Job Duties

1. Provide in-person and virtual research/reference assistance that will assist students to develop information competency and critical thinking skills through their ability to effectively search, evaluate and use information ethically.

2. Create library instructional materials in digital and print formats that apply culturally responsive pedagogy.

3. Provide instruction to students, both in-person and virtually, in the use of information resources and the development of information competency skills.

4. Actively collect, evaluate, and promote the use of library resources for faculty and students using a social justice & equity lens, and work as an effective liaison to faculty in assigned departments/programs.

5. Participate in the Library's informational competency program such as teaching research skills classes, serving on the department IC team, contribute to workshops, and be proactive in implementing the information competency goals of the college.

6. Promote student success and retention through the design, development, implementation and coordination of library programs, displays, and exhibitions.

7. Collaborate with colleagues on department-wide and college-wide committees, projects, and work groups.

8. Perform professional responsibilities as a faculty member of the college, such as by attending conferences and participating in professional development.

9. Must be flexible in adapting to changes in schedules and locations and be available to work late afternoons, evenings, and weekends at various center libraries or locations as required.

10. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

11. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

12. Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association or a comparable international accrediting agency, OR THE EQUIVALENT;

OR

Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Librarian Credential (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications

1. Experience providing equity-minded reference/public service in an urban community college, academic or other library, serving all students of varying backgrounds, races, abilities, nationalities, identities, sexual orientations, beliefs, religions, and socio-economic statuses.

2. Demonstrated ability to deliver information competency instruction via multiple modalities (such as live/synchronous and recorded/asynchronous) and centering student engagement. Demonstrated ability to use current digital tools and platforms (such as Canvas, Canvas Studio, Zoom, Google Workspaces) to teach students including those with limited English proficiency or basic skills level.

3. Experience using Springshare's suite of products such as editing LibGuides and chatting with patrons via LibAnswers. Experience using and teaching a library discovery tool such as OneSearch. Experience using Canvas or other learning management system as an instructor.

4. Experience assisting students and faculty in the use of library hardware, software, and digital collections as well as assisting students with personal digital devices for the use of library collections or coursework.

5. Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff. Experience supporting the success of minoritized students, expertise with culturally relevant pedagogy, experience providing service with a social justice & equity lens, and/or experience acting as an equity advocate.

6. Experience in the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the library's collection and service, in collaboration with colleagues.

7. Ability to serve as a resource to faculty in departments outside the library and develop collaborative relationships to further information literacy and increase awareness of library resources to students.

8. Ability to use an integrated library system (e.g. Ex Libris Alma and Primo) to circulate materials, update and edit records, catalog items, produce statistics, and generate reports. Alma-administrator certification is especially welcomed.

9. Experience coordinating services and personnel for a library or library unit.

10. Fluency in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) or Spanish, or another language other than English, such as Russian, Tagalog, Vietnamese, ASL, or Arabic. Possess the ability and willingness to conduct library orientations and/or research workshops in a language other than English.

11. Experience assessing Student Learning Outcomes and using data to improve instruction and/or programs.

12. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.

13. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
