City Net is Hiring a Guest Engagement Associate Near Sacramento, CA

Position Overview The Guest Engagement Associate will assist with program support and meeting client needs in a low-threshold interim housing site. Our Guest Engagement Associates use problem-solving, empathy, and verbal de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and secure environment for guests. They will provide general support and customer service for interim housing guests including coordinating check-in, conducting property checks, providing conflict resolution, communicating policies and procedures to internal and external constituents, coordinating meetings, and referring donations to partner agencies.
Work Environment and Work Schedule: This position is in-person, onsite at a low-threshold non-congregate interim housing site. The role will be scheduled for full time hours: 7am-3:30pm, Thursday-Monday.
Essential Functions
  • Coordinate and verify on-site scheduled meals, supportive services, events, and volunteers; prepare and serve meals on occasions when volunteer meal providers are unavailable.
  • Effectively communicate to facility guests when meals and services are scheduled, and assist Case Managers, Security, and the Leadership in communicating necessary announcements to clients as needed.
  • Replenish and organize supplies, light cleaning.
  • Perform crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
  • Cultivate and maintain productive, professional relationships with various stakeholders including clients, coworkers, volunteers, third-party vendors, etc.
  • In a manner that is consistently both kind and professional, effectively greet, engage, and assist all meal and service providers during scheduled shifts, including performing set up and clean up tasks such as wiping down tables, etc.
  • Receive, organize, and distribute donations.
  • Facilitate the generation of donation receipts and meet data recording requirements as donations come in.
  • Organize and maintain inventory of City Net’s storage. Report needed supplies/donations to assigned City Net staff.
  • Make copies and replenish all City Net forms.
  • Distribute meal packs to residents when a meal provider runs out of food or when a group cancels.
  • Check and reply to shelter emails professionally and in a timely manner.

  • High level of empathy and understanding for people experiencing homelessness and presenting with multiple and urgent case management needs, substance use, health, and/or mental health concerns
  • High levels of responsibility, dependability, and positive attitude
  • Respectful and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, planning, and organization skills
  • Experience cultivating and maintaining productive, professional relationships with various stakeholders including clients, coworkers, volunteers, third-party vendors, etc.
  • Understanding of the importance of quality and timely data collection and reporting
  • Understanding of or eagerness to learn about the nonprofit, volunteer, and social services sectors
  • Understanding of marginalized communities in general and the conditions which contribute to their marginalization, understanding of homelessness in particular
  • Basic computer proficiency including word processing and database management
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds with varying degrees of experience
  • Ability to perform crisis intervention and conflict de-escalation as needed
  • Ability to pass background checks successfully upon hire and throughout employment
Physical and Mental Demands

  • Constantly communicates with staff, clients, community partners, and community members
  • Constantly moves about inside the shelter, office, or at meetings/events to access people, file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; must be able to consistently detect and navigate potential hazards
  • Frequently ascends/descends stairs to access clients
  • Frequently positions self to communicate effectively with clients sitting or lying down
  • Frequently moves furniture, equipment, and materials weighing up to 15 pounds around the office or out of the office into vehicles for various office and event needs
  • Occasionally moves furniture, equipment, and materials weighing up to 30 pounds around the shelter/office or out of the office into vehicles for various office and event needs
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 1/3 of the time
  • Must be able to move oneself quickly in certain urgent/emergent situations (e.g. to avoid falling or projected items, or to administer Naloxone/Narcan to a client who has overdosed)
  • Must be able to perform under stress and/or in emergencies
