The Position

The purpose of this classification is to perform manual work functions in order to assist the survey crew.

Duties

Operates survey equipment in the collection of field data; transports, sets up, and maintains positions of needed equipment.
Uses plumb to attain accurate line of site and level rod to run elevations for roads, bridges and poles.
Lifts manhole covers to verify depth and pipe sizes.
Flags traffic around work sites.
Sets up survey flags and assists in the operation of GPS equipment.
Assists with the care and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicle.
Operates brush hook and machete for the purpose of clearing lines.
Operates tools and instruments in support of drafting and surveying.
Performs research duties as requested; locates deeds, plats or plans when previous survey information is needed.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience and/or training involving field surveying and general construction work preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; requires the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require the ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may require the ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportions; may require the ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, dept, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, animal/wildlife attacks, toxic agents, or pathogenic substances.
