BUS DRIVER FOR SUMMER CAMP

TEMPORARY SUMMER POSITION

This City of Bartow is holding the 2024 Bartow Bash Summer Camp from June 10 through July 26. We are looking for two (2) Bus Drivers for this camp.

There will be training/orientation before the actual camp start date and start date is anticipated to be in early June.

In addition to a City of Bartow application submit the following items:

• Copy of State of Florida CDL driver license and
• Copy of Social Security card.Please note, the last name on each document must be the same.
• Printout(s) showing complete lifetime driving history from any state in which you held a driver’s license. Note: For Florida printout, you may go to a courthouse branch office and obtain a certified Florida driving record.
• Copy of Diploma or GED.
• If currently employed by the School Board, attach a copy of DOT and Live Scan/Level II clearance.

MAJOR FUNCTION

Skilled work in the operation of light and heavy school buses in transporting students to and from Summer Camp locations to Field Trip Locations.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Transports students to and from Camps/Field Trips.

Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers.

Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.

Assumes responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading, and transporting them to and from locations.

Instructs children in safety precautions and practices.

Inspects and sweeps bus, checking water, gas, oil, and mechanical condition before leaving on run.

Keeps operational records and makes simple reports.

Reports defects or problems with vehicle to supervisor.

Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Current and valid State of Florida Class B CDL Driver License with Passenger Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement.

Five (5) years of verifiable driving experience.

Good driving record. No DUI conviction in the past fifteen (15) years.

Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and drug screening.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents.

Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner.

Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition.

Ability to relate to students, parents, volunteers, and co-workers.

Ability to complete various forms and records, including time sheets, field trip forms, incident reports, accident reports, etc.

Education:

Graduation from high school or completion of GED.
